Adair Co. Republican Party meeting

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Adair County Republican Party will be 6pmCT on Thursday, September 22, 2022. We will be discussing the booth for Downtown Days as well other items. All registered Republicans voters and those considering registering as a Republican are invited to attend.

The Adair County Republican Party meets monthly at 6pmCT on the 4th Thursday in the basement of the Adair County Courthouse Annex Building, 424 Public Square, Columbia, Kentucky.

T-shirt fundraiser for ACMS Cheerleaders

Adair Co. Middle School Cheer Coach

Adair County Middle School Cheerleaders have the opportunity to compete for the first time in about 5 years. There are two competitions in November. KAPOS Region 5 competition will be on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at Elizabethtown High School. The other is UCA Bluegrass, and if we place well at this one we can qualify to go to nationals in Orlando, FL.

The ACMS Cheerleaders are selling t-shirts to raise funds for upcoming events. ACMS Cheer t-shirts will be $16 for most sizes ($19 for 2X and up) and they can be purchased with cash, check or credit card.

T-shirts may be ordered by sending an email to brianna.hinebaugh-estes@adair.kyschools.us or by texting 606-425-8145. The deadline to place an order is October 1, 2022.

At the end of October 1921, the Adair County News reported that "Wilson & Hood have purchased the Frank Shepherd stock of goods, located in the North corner of the square. Wilson & Hood will remove the Shepherd stock to the Butler [i.e., west] corner where they conduct a general store."

A year and a half later (May 1923) came word that "Mr. Albin Murray and Mr. Geo. O. Barnes have purchased the Columbia Bakery and will continue the business at the same place. The bakery will be cut off from Wilson's store by a petition (sic). Mr. Barnes is an experienced baker."

Gov. Beshear, First Lady receive updated COVID-19 boosters

Frankfort, KY - During an event hosted in the Capitol Rotunda, Gov. Andy Beshear and First Lady Britainy Beshear rolled up their sleeves to receive the newly updated bivalent COVID-19 booster on Wednesday.

The Governor encouraged Kentuckians to get vaccinated and boosted and called upon leaders in government and other sectors to encourage others to get a shot of hope.

"I am here to publicly take this shot of hope and encourage others to get this crucial protection," Gov. Beshear said. "These vaccines are extremely safe and effective. Everyone in my family has received their vaccine and boosters when eligible."

Soccer: LWC Men defeat Lyon

The Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team picked up their first win of the season over Lyon University on Monday evening as Sicelo Buthelezi picked up his first win as head coach of the Blue Raider men's soccer team.

The Blue Raiders return to the pitch on Friday when they take on No. 17 Bethel (TN) on Ray Wells Field at Walter S. Reuling Stadium, 151 Holloway Drive, Columbia, KY.

Golf: LWC Men Roll to victory at The Players Club Invitational

Yorktown, IN - The Lindsey Wilson men's golf team rolled to their second straight win this season after posting an 864 (289-284-291) which was an even-par mark as a team. Freshman Ivan Ninkovic took home the individual title after finishing nine-under across his three rounds and three strokes better than second place.

Nina Stephens, 90, Russell Co., KY (1932-2022)

Nina Frances Stephens, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2022, at the home of her daughter in Corbin, KY. She was 90 years old.

Services will be held at 1pmCT on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Bernard Funeral Home, 367 N. Main St., Russell Springs, KY, with Brother David Coffey, Brother Troy Grider, and Brother Billy Silverman officiating. She will be buried next to her husband in the Bernard Ridge Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 11amCT on Thursday at Bernard Funeral Home.

Picnic enjoyed at Veterans Memorial Park

The Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce annual September picnic was held Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at the Veterans Memorial Park (formerly the Roadside Park), on Hwy 55 South, Columbia, KY.

The local financial institutions - Bank of Columbia, Community Trust Bank, First and Farmers National Bank and United Citizens Bank - were the official sponsors providing barbecue and fixings catered by Paula Miller. The fundraiser auction was led by Dr. Ronald Rogers and Ellen Zornes.
