Letter: Dr Roop association of opioid crisis in KY

Comments re: Roop appointed to KY Opioid Abatement Advisory Commission

Mary Bardin writes:

The opioid and substance abuse crisis is at an all time level in KY with emphasis on South Central KY. So many people have lost their lives, families, income and their inner soul because of addictions. Yet, we still do not seem to treat the root of the evil.

The pharmaceutical companies have shared the blame, and thanks to Attorney Cameron, have paid the price. Addiction is in almost every family in some way or fashion. Yet, we continue to incarcerate without providing a solution. We need more programs in our justice system as well as in our communities. The counties that provide prevention programs have proven the fact that the number of fatalities is less when prevention is implemented. I see folks struggle after incarceration, trying to re-establish a "somewhat normal life."

The Sneed Tombstone Fund

From Linda Seaton

John F. and Martha Beasley Sneed were the first Sneeds to settle in Adair County in the mid 1800s. A few of us older descendants know where their burial site is located at Antioch Cemetery and we would like to erect a gravestone for them. We have set up a Sneed Tombstone Fund at the Bank of Columbia for your donations. All donations will be greatly appreciated. If any extra funds exist after the gravestone is obtained, they will be donated to the Antioch Cemetery Fund.

Update Wednesday, August 3, 2022:
Glenn Seaton says, "There is now an online donation page at sneed.tombstonefund.com. If you know of any others that might want a page like this, we can create others with their name at tombstonefund.com."

Report your summer wild turkey sightings online

Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources encourages anyone who observes wild turkeys in Kentucky during July or August to enter some basic information about their sightings into an online survey portal. Data collected through this survey enable the department to better understand turkey trends over time.

The online survey portal for reporting sightings may easily be found by searching using the key words "turkey survey" at fw.ky.gov. A printable form of the survey may also be downloaded, printed and filled out, then scanned or photographed with a smartphone and emailed to info.center@ky.gov.

"This simple survey provides important data to help us better understand what is happening with the population over time," Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Wild Turkey Program Coordinator Zak Danks said. "More observations also give us increased data points and enhance our survey coverage statewide."
