Morris W. Goff, 93, Green County, KY (1928-2022) Former Green County Judge Executive Morris W. Goff of Greensburg, Kentucky, departed this life on Saturday, July 9, 2022. He was 93 years, 11 months and 15 days of age. He owned and operated Greensburg Auto Parts for over fifty years. He served two terms as Green County Judge-Executive. He was also a member of the Greensburg Rotary Club, the Green County Republicans and a former member of the hospital board. He coached the local American Legion baseball team all the way to the runner-up position in the World Series. Morris enjoyed the time spent with his family. He never met a stranger and travelled the county talking and visiting with friends. State of Columbia Parks and Recreation given By Mayor Pamela Hoots The City gave an update on the Parks and Recreation Department works over the past year as the new fiscal year begins. We have signed the Memorandum Agreement with the Commonwealth of Kentucky on the Land and Water Conservation grant. This grant is for a splash pad at the city park on Fairgrounds Street. The grant is for $113,900.00. It is matching at 50%, which does include some in-kind in that amount. We have signed the agreement with Lindsey Wilson College for additional usage around the track at the city park at the Fairgrounds. We plan on a walking trail. New state laws take effect this week From Mike Wynn, LRC Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky General Assembly passed 234 bills during this year's legislative session, and most will take effect on Thursday. That means that fentanyl dealers and porch pirates will face tougher penalties, the rules for public assistance are changing, and local school boards will be required to hold a public comment period. The Kentucky Constitution specifies that new laws take effect 90 days after the adjournment of the legislature unless they have special effective dates, are general appropriation measures, or include emergency clauses that make them effective immediately upon becoming law. Final adjournment of the 2022 session was on April 14, making July 14 the effective date for most bills. Paint the Town will feature food trucks, music From Tiffany Collins The third annual "Paint The Town" is happening in just two weeks. Over a couple of days, from July 27 through July 29, 2022, individuals, groups, businesses, churches, and organizations will decorate the sidewalks around the Public Square in downtown Columbia. "We think this is a great community event," said Mayor Pamela Hoots. "Individuals can come to town and paint the square, visit with neighbors, and view other artwork." On Friday, July 29, from 2pmCT to 8pmCT, there will be four food trucks set up in the parking lot directly across from City Hall: Mimi's Ice, Munch Time, First Baptist Church, and Shogun. There will also be music provided from 5pmCT until 7pmCT. The Adair County Arts Council will also be participating. FM2 nutrition vouchers now have to be activated The vouchers Adair County senior citizens can use at the Farmers Market on the Square in the state's Nutrition Program is going digital and must be activated at FM2 in Columbia Wednesday, July 13, 2022 from 8-1pmCT for eligibility. Seniors who received a card from the Jim Blair Center must bring their card to be activated.
