Fireworks at dark top off the holiday weekend The traditional shared Columbia-Adair County Fourth of July Fireworks show began promptly at 9pmCT in the old Fairgrounds at Lindsey Wilson College on July 4th, 2022. A huge crowd attended and the weather was perfect for bringing lawn chairs and relaxing with family and friends. Alice Jean Grimsley Matney, 70, Green County, KY Alice Jean Grimsley Matney of Greensburg, Kentucky, daughter of the late Earl M. Grimsley and Frances DeSpain Grimsley, was born on Monday, February 25, 1952 in Taylor County, Kentucky and departed this life on Monday, June 27, 2022 at the UofL Hospital in Louisville. She was 70 years, four months, and two days of age. She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Second Baptist Church. She was also a retired secretary for the former Grimsley Insurance Agency. Royce Smith, 87, Metcalfe County, KY (1935-2022) William Royce Smith, age 87, of Edmonton, KY passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at his residence. He was the owner operator of Metcalfe Motors in Edmonton, having proudly worked as the local Ford dealer for over 35 years. Royce also served as sheriff of Metcalfe County for one term. Adair Co. Revolutionary War veterans By Mike Watson A list of Revolutionary War veterans who are known to have lived in Adair County. Wind speed and fuses cause many firework injuries It was a windy Independence Day in 2015 when Jason Pierre-Paul, the star defensive end for the New York Giants, attempted to light one last rocket for the entertainment of friends and family. He tried once to light the fuse, but the wind blew it out. Then again, and again, after seven tries the fuse lit. And it blew. He can't recall whether the firework was still in his right hand, but when the explosion cleared, his hand was profoundly disfigured, nearly blown off. Among all the dangers of lighting fireworks, two are notable. First, a fuse that burns faster than expected and, second, wind. Michael (Sarge) Gibson, 76, Casey County, KY Michael "Sarge" Gibson, of Liberty, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. He was 76. Born on December 14, 1945, in Chippenham, England, he was a son of the late George Gibson and Peggy Deacon Kemp. Sarge was formerly a deputy sheriff for the Whitesburg Sheriff's Office. He proudly served his country in the US Army in Vietnam. In recent years, Sarge served on the Casey County Honor Guard where he honored the lives of local veterans. He attended Block Pentecostal Holiness Church for years. He loved old cars and was a member of the Family Cruisers Car Club. He was also a member of the Craftsman Masonic Lodge #722. He enjoyed painting, drawing, and spending time with his animals. Hot air balloons, a 5K, an arts and crafts fair, pink tractors, politics, music, and fireworks were all on the agenda. Larry J.
