From Michon Lindstrom

Frankfort, KY - Secretary of State Michael Adams announced that, in May, more new voters were added to Kentucky's rolls than were removed, for the third month in a row.

"Kentucky continues to see a bump in voter registration," said Adams. "After a sleepy primary election, I hope this indicates voter interest in the General Election."

Donations to animal shelters in honor of Lance Burton

T.J. Regional Health announced two $500 donations to the Green River Animal Shelter and to Sugarfoot Farm Rescue on behalf of the T.J. Community Mission Foundation on Tuesday, June 28, 2022. The donations were made in honor of Master Magician Lance Burton as a way to thank him for contributing his time and talents at the Foundation's annual fundraiser, The Magic of Giving, earlier this year.

Burton is an animal lover and has been a nationwide advocate in support of animal rescue and welfare organizations. His rescue dog, Rocky, joined him for the check presentations to these two non-profit organizations, both located in Adair County.

Burton expressed his appreciation to the Foundation for the donations and encouraged others to support the work they do at the shelters. He would also like to spread the message to "Adopt, don't shop" when looking for your family's next pet.

Adair Co. open burn, increased fire risk advisory

By Mike Keltner, Director
Adair Co. Emergency Management

Over the past few days Adair County Judge Executive Gale Cowan, Adair County Emergency Management Director, County District and City Fire Departments have been monitoring the abnormally dry conditions.

At this time we are reluctant to impose a county wide burn ban. Counties to our north (Taylor and Green) are listed as being in moderate drought conditions and Adair County is listed as being abnormally dry. Rain and storms are forecasted to begin Friday, July 1, 2022, and continue until Tuesday July 5, 2022, with a daily chance of 40-60%. If this forecasted moisture develops and fire reports remain low we hope that we can forgo an open burning ban.

This advisory serves as notice of increased fire risk in Adair County and that an increase of drought status, uncontrolled burns or fires may force implementation of a county wide burn ban.

Please use caution if you must burn or use fireworks during this abnormally dry time.

Drought status is shown in this link: www.drought.gov.

Dedication and commitment won votes for Danette Hancock

By Ann Martin

I count it an honor and a privilege to present this year's Outstanding Business & Professional Woman of the Year to Danette Hancock. Her dedication and commitment to customer service as First & Farmers National Bank Vice President and Loan Officer makes her the perfect recipient for this award.

While working with Danette for the past 14 years, I have personally seen the work ethic that she possesses; and I constantly see the uncanny ability she has to work through challenging situations with a positive result for all clients involved. She has excellent rapport with her customers and wants to insure they have a good loan experience.

Story Time with Ms. Aleina: Stefano The Squid Hero of the Deep

Ms. Aleina with the Adair County Public Library reads "Stefano The Squid Hero of the Deep" for Story Time.

Stefano the squid is surrounded by amazing animals: diving dolphins, colorful fish, and scary-looking anglerfish. These incredible creatures have grabbed the attention of the film crew from Deep Sea TV, but the crew never seems to care about filming Stefano. "Why don't they like me?" he wonders. Then one day, a diver gets into trouble. Can Stefano--just an ordinary common squid--save the day?
