21st CCLC Camp Casey Outstanding Attendance Awards

Adair County Primary Center

We recognized the top three students at each grade level with the greatest attendance in the 21st CCLC program at Adair County Primary Center this school year.

Kindergarten winners were: Caleb Walls with 117 days, Kaiden Trzeciak with 112 days, and Lexi Stotts with 105 days.

First Grade winners were: Jessalynn Russell with 119 days, Camreon Crowdus with 115 days, and Mary Miller with 112 days.

Second Grade winners were: Cory Walls with 120 days, Landon Burton with 116 days, and Aubrey Westray with 110 days.

Charles E. (Chick) Graham, 95, Campbellsville, KY (1926-2022)

Charles E. "Chick" Graham of Campbellsville passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. He was 95 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 2pmET on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Ave., Campbellsville, KY, officiated by Rev. Jim Durham and Bro. Tim Coghill. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery.

Carol Perkins: Don't Let The Old Woman In

At his concert, Engelbert told a story about when Toby Keith and Clint Eastwood were working on a project. Toby was amazed by Clint's stamina. At ninety, he was working circles around younger men. Toby said, according to Engelbert, "How do you keep going? You direct, act, produce, and that's just the beginning." Clint replied, "I don't let the old man in." Toby wrote a song by that title and Engelbert recorded it, too.

I talked about this on our radio show and so many people commented about not letting the old woman in." One said, "I try to beat her down, but sometimes she raises her ugly head." Keep beating! Surrendering, looking out the window, and living in the past is letting her in. Even in the worst of health, some keep going. We know people who have kept pushing through the pain for a long time.

How do we keep her out when we feel "old?" Here are some ideas.

EWDC releases April 2022 unemployment report

Frankfort, KY - Kentucky's seasonally adjusted preliminary April 2022 unemployment rate was 3.9%, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency within the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet (EWDC).

The preliminary April 2022 jobless rate was down 0.1 percentage points from the 4% reported in March 2022 and down 0.8 percentage points from the 4.7% recorded for the state one year ago.

The U.S. seasonally adjusted jobless rate for April 2022 was 3.6%, which was unchanged from March 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Phyllis Ann Lobb, 82, Green Co., KY (1939-2022)

Phyllis Ann Lobb of Greensburg passed away on Monday, May 16, 2022, at Green Hill Rehabilitation and Care. She was 82 years old.

Funeral services for Phyllis Lobb will be conducted at 2pmCT on Friday, May 20, 2022, at Campbellsville Church of the Nazarene, 912 West Main Street, Campbellsville, KY, with Rev. David Young officiating. Burial will follow in Green County Memory Gardens in the Summersville Community.

Visitation will be from 12:30pmCT until the funeral hour on Friday, May 20, 2022, at the church.

William Thomas Compton, 77, Edmonton, KY (1944-2022)

William Thomas Compton of Edmonton passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at the Commonwealth Specialty Hospital in Bowling Green. He was 77 years old.

Graveside services for Mr. Compton will be held at 2:30pmCT on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at the Compton Family Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9amCT until 2pmCT on Saturday at Butler Funeral Home, 201 East St., Edmonton, KY.

Tennis: Ivanchenko's heroics send LWC to quarterfinals

Mobile, AL - No. 9-seeded Lindsey Wilson women's tennis continued their winning form in NAIA Championship play on Wednesday with a close 4-3 win over No. 8-seed Middle Georgia State at the Mobile Tennis Center.

Anastasiia Ivanchenko got the winning point on the afternoon to send the Blue Raiders into the quarterfinals after coming back from being down 7-5 in set one. Ivanchenko went on tie the match in set two with a 6-2 victory before winning 6-3 sending the Blue Raiders (23-3) to tomorrow's quarterfinals for the first time since 2018.

Jo Ann Hines, 73, Hodgenville, KY (1948-2022)

Jo Ann (Bragg) Hines of Hodgenville, formerly of Columbia, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown. She was 73 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 2pmET on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home, 208 West Water Street, Hodgenville, KY, with Bro. Murrell Kurtz officiating. Burial will follow in Red Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4pmET to 8pmET on Saturday, and will continue after 10amET on Sunday at the funeral home.

Gov. signs bills to support military service members, families

Bills expand Military Family Assistance Trust Fund, ease licensing requirements for spouses and add seven new special military license plate options

Frankfort, KY - On Wednesday, May 18, 2022, as part of Military Appreciation Month, Gov. Andy Beshear ceremonially signed into law four pieces of legislation recently passed by the General Assembly that support Kentucky's military community and families.

He also recognized the ultimate sacrifice of Kentucky service members who lost their lives defending our state and country, and thanked Gold Star families for their service to our nation.

The Governor was joined by bill sponsors and members of Kentucky's military community, including Deputy Adjutant General of Kentucky Brig. Gen. Brian Wertzler and Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Whitney Allen, to sign legislation that expands the Military Family Assistance Trust Fund, makes it easier for military spouses to obtain occupational licenses and adds seven active military unit license plates to the 28 current military-related plates.

The bills, which will become law on their effective dates, are:

Randy Creason, 61, Taylor Co., KY native (1960-2022)

Tennis: LWC Men Exit NAIA National Championships

Mobile, AL - It was a tough day for the No. 7-seeded Lindsey Wilson men's tennis' team as their hopes of an NAIA National Championship were halted after a 4-3 loss to No. 10-seeded Middle Georgia State in the NAIA National Championships second round at the Mobile Tennis Center.

The Knights (12-6) snagged the doubles point winning at the No. 2 and No. 3 seeded matches.

Memorial Day Service at VFW Post 6097

VFW Post 6097 Columbia will be holding a Memorial Day service on Sunday afternoon, 29 May 2022. The service will be at 2pmCT at the Post located at 500 Green Hills Rd., Columbia, KY.

The speaker will be Marine LTC (retired) Paul Smith. Paul is a Vietnam Veteran as well as US Embassy guard service. He also was awarded the Silver Star for actions in Vietnam.

The public is invited to join us in honoring our fallen Brothers and Sisters.

The National Weather Service in Louisville, KY, issued the following hazardous weather outlook for portions of central Kentucky, including Adair and all surrounding counties for Thursday, May 19, 2022:
Another round of strong to severe storms will be possible again this afternoon and evening. Main threats will be damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. Heavy rainfall may result in localized flooding in some areas.
