Glenvil McQueary, 80, Russell County, KY (1941-2022) Glenvil McQueary, of Russell Springs, KY, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022. He was 80 years of age. He was a member of the Russell County Jaycees for almost fifty years. Glen was a familiar face to many "fair-goers", especially those that enjoyed the mule pulling events, which he often judged here, and in other counties. He was a tremendous supporter of the Russell County Fair and being a Jaycee was always important to him. Glen once told his family, "I was put on this earth to help people, and when I can no longer be of help, then the good Lord can take me home." He loved the people of Russell County and his life was a reflection of the last line of the Jaycee Creed - "Service to humanity is the best work of life." Kentucky Color: Sang By Billy Joe Fudge No, it's not the past tense of the verb, sing. "Sang" is the Great Wooded South vernacular name for the plant with the most valuable root in the woods, Ginseng. This particular plant is the famous Three Pronger rendition of the plant and is, I believe, the most prominent visual definition of symmetry in nature. On another note, our geographic location here in the Great Wooded South puts us on the Southern edge of the Northern temperate forest, the Northern edge of the Southern temperate forest, the Western edge of the Appalachian mountain ecosystem and the Eastern edge of the Great Plains ecosystem. This geographic location puts us in a place with a great variety of plant life. The nuances of green, form, species and texture in the picture are indicative of that variety. I'm not a botanist but I would be willing to bet there are one or two of these plants that won't be found 200 miles North of here and one or two that won't be found 200 miles South of here, etc. If as William Cowper said, "variety is the very spice of life", then our lives here in the Great Wooded South are, most certainly, well seasoned. 2022-05-15 10:18:37 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Kentucky Color by Billy Joe Fudge
