Elgin Yvonne Parnell, 83, Metcalfe County, KY (1939-2022) Elgin Yvonne Parnell, 83, of Edmonton, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2022. Elgin was born February 9, 1939 in the Bridgeport community of Metcalfe County, the daughter of the late Cosby and Clarice Keltner Blaydes. Elgin was a member of the Elm View Methodist Church. She will be remembered by many for her 30 plus years as the checkout clerk at the former JR Foods Store in Edmonton. KTC projects include Breeding Road and work on Parkway Some of the expected traffic impacts in the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3 area for May 14 through May 20 include work on Breeding Road at the Metcalfe/Adair County Line, and resurfacing on the Louie B. Nunn-Cumberland Expressway. Metcalfe County KY 533 Breeding Road (mile points 9.3 - 9.7)- Work on a slide repair project continues on Breeding Road beginning at Mosby Ridge Road and extending east to the Adair County line. To complete the repairs the road will be closed to through traffic and a detour will be provided. The closure is expected to begin on May 2 and is expected to reopen May 30. The detour will utilize KY 61, Dividing Ridge Road and Reese Hurt Road. Motorists need to allow extra travel time due to the distance of the detour. Louie B. Nunn-Cumberland Expressway A project to rehabilitate and resurface a section of the Louie B. Nunn-Cumberland Express in Barren and Metcalfe Counties will continue next week. Motorists can expect work going on from the 20-mile marker to the 36-mile marker and the speed limit will be lowered to 55 mph. Lane closures will be in place from the 28-mile marker to the 36 mile marker. Flags to half-staff for Peace Officers Memorial Day By Crystal Staley/Scottie Ellis Frankfort, KY - In accordance with a proclamation from the White House, Gov. Andy Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Sunday, May 15, 2022, in observance of Peace Officers Memorial Day. A joint resolution of Congress, approved October 1, 1962, designated May 15 of each year as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as Police Week. This observance pays tribute to local, state and federal peace officers who have died or been disabled in the line of duty. "Let's take this time to honor those lost, to remember their families and to remind our communities that we stand together with them in gratitude to those who have given the ultimate sacrifice," said Gov. Beshear. "Through this tradition of remembrance, our heroes can live on forever." CU: Hopkins presides over first commencement By Joan C. McKinney Campbellsville, KY - Dr. Joseph Hopkins, the 12th president of Campbellsville University, presided over his first commencement asking the 1,593 students who were receiving their degrees "Who's on your journey?" May 6 and 7 in Powell Athletic Center. Hopkins presented an address telling of the experience of his family fulfilling one of his bucket list items - traveling to the Sahara Desert where he and his wife, Suzanne, and sons, Joseph and Vance, camped and enjoyed "who" was on their 115-degree heated trip. He told the graduates they are about to launch on a journey of their own. "Most often, the questions being asked at this stage are where, what, why and most especially, how?," he said, while he challenged them to add the who to their list of questions.
