Carl's Locker & Market Rebirth

Brad West writes:
I remember going there when I was a kid. Sometimes mom would make my brother, sister and me wait in the hot car while she went inside for a quick withdrawal. Other times we got to go inside with her. That was the coolest place in town.

I wish there was still a business like this here in Columbia. I didn't realize it at that time, but we were supporting local farmers and hunters. Maybe some business-minded folks around here would like to resurrect this type of community resource. I hope so.

D.A.R.E. Graduation held at Adair Co. Elementary School

By Alice Curry, Technology Teacher & STC
Adair County Elementary School

Once a week for the past 10 weeks, ACES 5th grade students have been learning about the dangers of drugs and alcohol with Columbia Police Department Officer Adam Cravens. On Friday, April 22nd, a graduation ceremony was held for students.

"We have been learning about how drugs are dangerous. Officer Cravens is a really good officer and we appreciate him taking his time with us because it will help us in the future. All kids need to know this," said Natalie Keith. "We learned that vaping is more dangerous than smoking cigarettes because when you vape, you are inhaling toxic metals and chemicals into your body," stated Jackson Coomer, ACES 5th grader. Fifth grade students were asked to write an essay about what they learned in the D.A.R.E. program. Miles Bowman and Elaine Cook were the winners of the essay contest.

Officer Cravens said, "The Columbia Police Department wishes to thank The Adair County School Board as well as the faculty and staff of Adair County Elementary School for granting the Columbia Police Department the opportunity to reach out to students."
