Letter: Today is Earth Day, everyone can help

William Feese writes:
Today, April 22, is Earth Day. Nearly one million species face extinction thanks to human activities like deforestation, development, etc.

“Biodiversity is a little like an airplane," says Colin O’Mara, president and CEO of the NWF, “If you start taking out screws one at a time, you don’t know which one is going to make a wing or the engine fall off, but eventually the system is going to collapse.“

Everyone can help! It’s the small things Charlie Brown. - William

Janes signs to play basketball at LWC

By Jennifer Myers

ACHS senior Luke Janes signed Tuesday, April 19 to play basketball at Lindsey Wilson College this fall.

Luke's parents, Chris and Christina Janes, along with assistant coach Kalen Kimberland, head LWC basketball coach Chris Starks, and ACHS basketball coach Deron Breeze witnessed his signing.

"Luke will go down as one of the most decorated players individually in Adair County history. Some of his individual accolades were being an all-district performer multiple times, one of the top rebounders in the state multiple times, all region this year and a 2A All State tournament performer. I don't know the exact number, but there are less than five players in the history of Adair County High School who have recorded 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds. Luke is one of those players. He did great things for athletics, not just basketball at Adair County. I look forward to seeing his success on the court at Lindsey Wilson," commented Coach Breeze.

ACHS wishes Luke the best in his future at Lindsey Wilson College!

Carol Perkins: Quilting Bee

Previous Column: Who would I pay big bucks to see?

By Carol Perkins

Sewing has a way of taking me away from the world. While sitting at the machine, I think of nothing but the next stitch. During the pandemic, I covered every outdoor cushion and made curtains for the inside. Sewing masks was the hardest of all my projects. I ran out of steam and the machine went back into its case.

Fast forward two years, and a knee replacement, hip replacement, and a broken femur. I was rapidly going crazy from inactivity. I couldn't sit upright to sew, and I could read only so many hours a day. TV was as boring as it was before my time-out from life.

What was I going to do? Then an idea hit me like a bolt of material. I will quilt!
