Cumberland Co. has 2nd lowest unemployment for all of 2021 By Mike Clark/Gabe Tomlin Frankfort, KY - Annual unemployment rates decreased in all 120 Kentucky counties in 2021, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency within the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. In Adair County, unemployment was down two percent, from 7% in 2020 to just 5% for 2021. Unemployment fell in all local counties year-to-year, with Cumberland and Green Counties notching among the lowest unemployment numbers in the state during 2021. The annual jobless rate for Woodford County was the lowest in the commonwealth in 2021 at 3.4%. It was followed by Cumberland County, 3.5%; Oldham and Todd counties, 3.6% each; Green and Scott counties, 3.7% each; and Boone, Carlisle, Logan, and Shelby counties, 3.8% each.

Ribbon Cutting Tuesday for Research Center By Mike Watson Tuesday, April 19th was a big day for many of us in the pandemic year of 2021. It was an event to be remembered because that was the day we opened the doors to the Adair Genealogy and History Research Center to the public for the first time. And the researcher and visitors came! We had a great opening and wonderful support since that time. There will be an official "Ribbon Cutting" event on the one year anniversary, at 10amCT on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, shine or rain. Everyone is invited to come to the event, tour the collections, and rejoice in the history of our county and town. GRL Park Rangers announce water safety poster contest Park Ranger Andrea Davis is working with ACES art teacher Rachel Waggener to coordinate a water safety poster contest with the students. Davis and another Park Ranger, Cole Upton, visited with ACES students on Monday morning, April 18, to provide information about the contest. The entire 5th grade will participate, and they will have 2 weeks to complete posters that highlight the theme: "No Matter the Season, Water Safety is Always Important". Ranger Davis says, "We hope that all other posters will be displayed somewhere in the school. We are very excited about this project and the partnership with the school- we hope the kids will enjoy it and can't wait see their creativity!" GRL Army Corp. of Engineers visits ACES 5th grade Students By Alice Curry, Technology Teacher & STC Adair County Elementary School Andrea Davis and Cole Upton, Park Rangers with the Green River Lake Army Corp. of Engineers visited with Adair County Elementary School 5th grade students on Monday, April 18, 2022, to demonstrate and teach students about the different types of life jackets. They also gave all 5th graders an opportunity to compete in a poster contest. The theme of the poster contest is "No Matter the Season, Water Safety is Important." Posters are due April 29, 2022, and the first place winner's poster will be on display this summer at the Green River Lake Army Corp. of Engineers Visitor Center. Second, third, and fourth place posters will be on display at other Green River Lake Campgrounds. Other prizes will be given to all winners. Kentucky State Police raising funds for Special Olympics By Captain Paul Blanton Frankfort, KY - Kentucky State Police (KSP) once again is showing their support of Special Olympics Kentucky (SOKY) by hosting the 'Cover the Cruiser' fundraising event at locations across the commonwealth. During the last week of April, KSP will park cruisers at various public locations and encourages Kentuckians to cover the cruisers with custom SOKY stickers for a minimum donation of one dollar, which will go directly to SOKY.
