Phillip Coffey: shattered

Shattered by Phillip Coffey
Took up reading poetry for a shortened spell - need I ever do more
To learn that which I dare not tell others among the harden earthen swell.
Achievements by the Ner do well - the fruit of labors of others sweated brow.
The pain and grief of countless lonely people with smells of war that scatter.

On bended knee with him he prayed - remove from my soul these horrid matters
The blemishes of the world at large - when in the innocence of my youthful state
I marched, soon seasoned to take upon the duties of hundreds that had fallen.
Now I stand at the Golden gate, shattered, humbled, hopeful - with you to gather.

Letter: People need to be vigilant

Comments re: Scams blossoming like wild flowers this spring

By Donna Rieder

It's sad that we live in a world where people are trying to steal from other people electronically. I've been spending more time on Facebook lately, looking for breeding stock to add to my little herd of Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats.

Sadly, there are people on there who have been stealing photos of other peoples' baby goats, then posting them for sale on Facebook. I contacted one of these low-life's inquiring about a goat kid they had posted for sale. Even though I live just a couple hours away and was going to bring cash with me, they kept insisting that I get a $100 gift card as a "deposit", take photos of both sides, and send it to them immediately via Messenger. This was a red flag to me, in addition to noticing an odd way of writing (their grammar), so I pulled up their profile, and all of the people who were listed as their friends, were foreign. I immediately posted an alert to all of my Facebook goat groups, and I got many comments from people who had encountered these scams, and some of them said they even recognized photos of their own goats on these other people's sites.

Freeze Watch issued for Saturday night

The National Weather Service in Louisville, KY, has issued a Freeze Watch on Saturday, April 9, 2022 for an area including Adair County and all surrounding counties. This Freeze Watch remains in effect from late tonight through Sunday morning.

Scattered light rain and snow showers are expected across the outlook area this morning and into the early afternoon hours. A few areas may see a quick slushy accumulation where a stronger shower moves through.

Temperatures are expected to drop into the high 20's overnight in south central Kentucky. Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

Much of next week appears to be unsettled with multiple rounds of showers and a few thunderstorms. Some strong to severe storms may impact the region on Thursday.
