Carol Perkins: The Red Cabinet

Previous Column: Don't get up!

By Carol Perkins

When my sister-in-law was going to toss a piece of furniture, I asked if I could have it. Her husband, Arnold Berry, had made the stereo cabinet when he was young and before he became a master cabinet builder, as well as a farmer.

For years, the piece sat in my garage, backed into a corner, and, according to Guy, taking up space. I saw it as a future project.

During the pandemic, Guy dragged the piece outside and I set out to repurpose it. (I like that word.)

In Praise of Garbage Men

By Joyce Coomer

I want to thank the city garbage men for being so understanding and polite. I am cleaning out thirty-five years of accumulated items from the shop building and they have been making two pickups a week instead of their normal one pickup. They are always cheerful and polite, and don't seem to mind that some days I have six or eight garbage cans full -- sometimes heavily.

Thank you to the garbage men. You deserve a 100% raise in pay.
