Reminder: Deadline to switch parties is Dec 31

Frankfort, KY - Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams reminds Kentuckians who wish to update their political party affiliation to do so by December 31, 2021, in order to be eligible to vote in the May 17, 2022 primary election.

"If you are currently a registered voter and want to vote in a political party's primary election next May, by law you must be registered to vote in that party by this Friday, December 31," said Adams. "Anyone wishing to change party affiliation, or any other voter information, can visit sos.ky.gov, click on 'Elections' and select 'Register to Vote'."

The Adair Co. Clerks Office will be closed December 30 and 31, 2021 for New Years, so Wednesday, December 29, 2021 will be the last business day to change political party affiliation in person and be eligible to vote in that political party affiliation's upcoming primary election of 2022.

In each regular session of the General Assembly since he took office, Adams has asked legislators to extend the party-switch deadline to closer to the primary election date.

Billy Ray Payne, 79, Adair County, KY (1942-2021)

Bishop Billy Ray Payne, 79, of Columbia, transitioned peacefully from this life on December 26, 2021, to his heavenly home. He left behind an enduring legacy as a devoted husband, father, Christian, and philanthropist.

Billy was born in the family home on June 16, 1942, to William and Lucinda Christine (Williams) Payne in the Neatsville community of Adair County, Kentucky. His family later moved to the Sparksville community. He attended Adair County public schools and worked on the family farm until moving to Chicago as a young man.

In 1971, Billy met Beverly Pollard in Indianapolis, Indiana at the Virginia Grill, where she was a waitress and he was a cook. He knew from the moment he saw her flowing, long red hair that she would become his wife. True to his intuition, they married on January 3, 1972, and raised 11 children together. They celebrated 49 years of marriage and were just a few days shy of their 50th Golden Anniversary at the time of Billy's passing.

Parrott to compete in Patriot All-America Invitational

Gracie Parrott, the daughter of Walt and Deana Coffey-Parrott, and granddaughter of 5th district magistrate Billy Dean Coffey, is among a select few top collegiate women's golfers who will tee off in the Patriot All-America Invitational at the Wigwam Golf Resort in the last week of December.

The Patriot All-America Invitational will feature a Women's Division for the first time ever in 2021. Dubbed "College Golf's Bowl Game," the 11th annual edition will include 42 of college golf's best women players, in addition to 84 of the best men's collegiate players, December 28-31, 2021, at the Wigwam Golf Resort in Litchfield Park, AZ.

All participants in the Patriot All-American play in honor of a fallen or severely injured soldier, by carrying a golf bag bearing the soldier's name. Participants receive a card with the soldier's story, so they can be familiar with who that person was, what they represented and how they were killed or wounded in action. The Patriot All-America has been honoring fallen or severely wounded soldiers in this unique way since the event's inception in 2011.

Gracie Parrott will be playing in honor of Russell Edward Madden, an Army Specialist from Bellevue, Kentucky. SPC Madden died on June 23, 2010, in a rocket-propelled grenade attack on his convoy in Afghanistan, during Operation Enduring Freedom. He was only 29 years old.
