Cameron asks US Supreme Court to hear case on KY DUI laws

By Elizabeth Kuhn

Frankfort, KY - Attorney General Daniel Cameron last week asked the United States Supreme Court to review a decision by the Supreme Court of Kentucky that struck down important parts of Kentucky's implied-consent laws, which require individuals suspected of impaired driving to submit to a breath or blood test if requested by law enforcement.

The Supreme Court of Kentucky's decision allows an individual to refuse a blood test and prohibits that refusal from being held against him or her in court. Prosecutors across the Commonwealth have expressed concern with the court's opinion, noting that the decision creates challenges for impaired-driving prosecutions.

"Prosecutors should be given every reasonable tool to prosecute individuals who drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol," said Attorney General Cameron. "We know that many of Kentucky's impaired driving offenses involve drugs, and blood testing is essential to hold these offenders accountable. A case with these stakes deserves consideration by our nation's highest court."

De-clutter and cut holiday stress

The bedroom closet was already full. The fridge and cabinets have little room to spare, and neither do the storage closets. Once the gifts, decorations, extra food, new holiday outfits and all the other assorted stuff is added, the state of overwhelm can easily prevail, just like every year.

Consider giving yourself an extra gift: A pre-New Year de-clutter, to help prioritize the items you value, make space for new things and cut back on stress so you can enjoy the things that really matter. A few suggestions follow.

Carol Perkins: Gallagher to the rescue

Previous Column: A pretend cruise to Hawaii

By Carol Perkins

"Let's sit on the porch and drink coffee," I suggested that warm Christmas Eve night. Soon the ferocious wind blew my hair straight up, chilled my coffee, and forced us inside. Unexpectedly, our neighbor's yellow cat flew through the bushes, hit the ground, and dashed across the yard.

Later, when the TV was on mute during the commercials, I thought I heard a faint voice outside. "Do you hear someone?" Guy did. We dashed to the front door, he flipped on the outside lights, and lo and behold, reindeer stood like decorations. "What in the world?" Guy was about to finish when the voice continued, "Up here!" High above us, Santa's sleigh was swaying in our pine tree, tilted downward as if ready to slide through the branches, and Santa was clinging to a nearby branch. "Get me down," the voice pleaded.
