Letter: Looking for copyright holder of Blair history book Elena McCrary writes: I am looking to get permission to digitize the book The Family of James Blair and Nancy Day. It is important, even if there are no print copies left. As the librarian for the Clan Blair Society, it would be a wonderful resource if we could digitize a copy and have it available for members to search. Thank you for considering. Most sincerely - Elena McCraryWe're posting in case any of the family descendants might know who would be able to grant permission. Use our Comment Form if you have helpful information. Taylor Co. transitioning driver licensing to KYTC in December By Chuck Wolfe Frankfort, KY - Six more Kentucky counties, including Taylor, will make the transition in December to a new, secure driver-licensing model, administered by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC), that gives Kentuckians more choices and modern services. The traditional issuance system of licenses and permits initiated at the Office of Circuit Court Clerk in each county is being phased out. It is being replaced by a network of KYTC Driver Licensing Regional Offices located across the state. Twenty regional offices have been opened statewide to date, with more to come. KYTC and Kentucky's circuit court clerks are working together to smoothly complete the transition statewide by June 30, 2022. "It's a new era of driver licensing in Kentucky," Gov. Andy Beshear said. "We are using technology to offer more service options than ever before, such as online appointment scheduling, online license renewal and mail-in renewal. After many years of issuing driver licenses, circuit court clerks will be able to focus solely on court business, and driver licensing will be executed at new regional offices whose only business is licensing." Making the transition in December will be Grayson, LaRue, Knox, Pendleton, Taylor and Wayne counties. They bring to 80 the number of counties that will have done so by the end of December. The Office of Circuit Court Clerk in each of the six counties will refer residents to driver licensing services effective Dec. 27, 2021. Residents of counties making the transition may renew or apply for a REAL ID or new standard card version of driver license, learner permit, commercial driver license (CDL) or ID card at any KYTC Driver Licensing Regional Office, including the one at 363 Office Park Drive in Columbia. Applicants are encouraged to make an appointment online, which can be done at drive.ky.gov | Regional Offices Map. Walk-in customers are welcomed on a first-come, first-served basis until available slots are filled. Tommy Druen: The lesson I have taken from 2021 Previous Column: Learning to sit still By Tommy Druen When December hits, people tend to become reflective in nature. We look back at the past year and forward to the next one. Some measure their accomplishments, while others plan ahead. There is nostalgia, optimism and dread. Each and every person has a different inner response, but the truth remains that December is a marked waypoint in our lives each and every year. This last year has been rough, and we should acknowledge that. Around the globe, we have experienced a continuing pandemic, natural disasters, rioting in the streets and government buildings, the reemergence of the Taliban and rising inflation. From the macro to the micro, the amount of financial and mental health struggles, with one often being the cause of the other, increased dramatically. It is definitely enough to make one wonder if all these are the beginning of sorrows. However, while we tend to focus on the negative, the positive abounds! At an unprecedented speed, the COVID vaccine was developed and deployed. Nearly half of the people in the world are already fully vaccinated. There were peaceful transitions of power around the world. There was flight on another planet, while private enterprise found ways to take citizens out of our atmospheric borders and return. And, despite all the challenges, the world came together to witness the peak athleticism on display at the Tokyo Olympics. I will not claim that the positive outweighs the negative.
