National No-Tillage Conference coming to Louisville in January

By Sean Southard

Frankfort, KY - No-till planting, a practice that first found success in Kentucky, is celebrating 60 years next year. And for only the second time in its 30-year history, the National No-Tillage Conference, the event that celebrates and encourages no-till practices for agriculture, will be back in Kentucky, Commissioner of Agriculture Dr. Ryan Quarles announced.

"We are excited to once again host the National No-Tillage Conference," Commissioner Quarles said. "Since the practice first found success in Kentucky in 1962, it's only fitting we welcome the conference that celebrates and encourages this agricultural execution, back home to where it all began. No-till planting has changed the way Kentucky farmers can work the land for the benefit of all."

The National No-Tillage Conference is set for Jan. 4-7, 2022, at the Galt House in Louisville. The four-day event will include information from leading no-tillers, agronomists, researchers and other no-till experts sharing ideas for farmers to get the most out of their no-till farming system.

KACo recommends electric vehicle tax to lawmakers

By Jordan Hensley, LRC

Frankfort, KY - Counties across the Commonwealth would like to see lawmakers make a few changes during the upcoming 2022 legislative session. One of those changes includes establishing an electric vehicle tax or fee.

Representatives from the Kentucky Association of Counties (KACo) presented the group's 2022 legislative agenda to the Interim Joint Committee on Local Government on Monday, November 22, 2021.

"The time for Kentucky to address this is now," said Shellie Hampton, KACo director of government affairs. "Thirty states, including all of our neighbors, have already instituted an electric vehicle fee."

Hampton also noted that many of the states that have implemented electric vehicle fees share the revenue with county governments.

All KY adults now eligible for COVID-19 vaccination booster

By Crystal Staley/Scottie Ellis

Frankfort, KY - On Monday, November 22, 2021, Gov. Andy Beshear wished all Kentuckians a happy Thanksgiving and provided guidance on how to stay safe and protect loved ones during the holiday week.

"Hospitalizations and requests for monoclonal antibody infusions are ticking up," said Gov. Beshear. "We do not want to see that. We need to be really careful with Thanksgiving this week, as well as Christmas coming up. But unlike last year, there is an opportunity for this holiday season to be safe and pretty normal for you and your family if you follow the precautions you need to."

The Governor encouraged Kentuckians to:
  • Get a COVID-19 vaccination;
  • Get a vaccination booster (all Kentucky adults are now eligible for a booster);
  • Stay home and avoid gatherings if they feel sick;
  • Wear masks if indoors and unvaccinated and/or not boosted, and
  • Keep gatherings small.
