Boil Water Advisory issued for parts of Burkesville Rd Update 11/14/2021: Boil Water Advisory lifted for Burkesville Rd area From Columbia Adair Utilities District Date Issued 11/13/21 Time Issued 1:15 p.m. The advisory has been issued due to a main line break. Following such an event, the potential exists for bacteriological contamination of the water supply therefore this Boil Water Advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure. Until further notice, boil all water used for drinking and cooking, bringing the water to a rolling boil for three minutes before using. This advisory will remain in effect until the situation has been corrected and test results have shown the water to be of an acceptable quality. Carol Perkins: Life's Chapters Previous Column: Them Bones By Carol Perkins I once thought of writing a book called "Chapters." After all, life is divided into chapters, depending on how many years we are given. In thinking about my chapters, I would naturally begin with my birth. I was born at my grandmother's Sullivan's home, but within the year my new home was completed (mostly) and we moved to the location where my mother lives today. My house was a 40s craftsman with a pitched roof, which was good for playing ante-over. I never knew life without an indoor bathroom with a tub except my overnight stays at my grandparents' houses. COVID-19 News Brief & Vaccination Update 11/12/2021 By Sam Price Lake Cumberland District Health Department Tonight's report contains numbers from Thursday as well as Friday, due to the Veteran's Day holiday. We have seen a slight increase in cases this week, compared to last week, with 7 of our 10 counties having more positive cases this week than last. Statewide, the positivity rate is also creeping back up. Please take precautions to keep yourself and your families safe and healthy during this upcoming holiday season. Of today's 189 reported cases, 155 (82%) were unvaccinated and 55 of today's cases (29%) were in individuals 18 years of age or younger. Please take the necessary precautions to protect yourself and your loved ones. Consider getting the vaccine if you are eligible and haven't, and wear a mask when in indoor settings where there are large crowds. Statewide Testing Positivity Rate: 5.53%. A distress signal to memorize to help others A silent signal allowed a missing 16-year-old girl to be rescued. The story went viral since the event last week and it's one to remember. The hand signal to memorize has three steps: palm up, thumb tucked, fingers covering the thumb. The signal, created by the Canadian Women's Foundation, is the hand signal that the missing teen flashed through the car window toward passing cars. The girl was able to demonstrate the silent signal to someone who had also seen it on the social media website TicToc and recognized that she was possibly giving a signal she was in danger.
