May 26, 1945: Adair Honor Roll Board Dedication By Mike Watson The following article from the May 30, 1945, edition of the Adair County News reported on the dedication of the Adair County Honor Roll Board: On Saturday afternoon the Honor Roll of Adair County men and women of World War II was dedicated with appropriate services. The North and West sides of the Square were cleared for the large crowd which had assembled to do the honor to the more than 1,300 Adair Countians whose names appear on the Board. A platform was erected on the Court House lawn for the speakers and the flower-covered glass-enclosed Honor Board, which is to be permanently affixed to the wall of the Court House hall, was prominently displayed. After a parade by the Louisville Boy Scout Band, Rev. L.R. Fugit, pastor of the Columbia Christian Church, and Master of Ceremonies, introduced Rev. R.E. Reeves, pastor of the Columbia Presbyterian Church, who offered the invocation. Brief remarks thanking all who had assisted in making the occasion possible and explaining the purpose and manner of purchase of the Board were made by L.R. Fugit and W.E. Harris, who had served with Mrs. G.R. Reed, Mrs. J.P. Scruggs, and Mrs. Rollin Cundiff as an Honor Board committee. An offering to complete a deficit in payment for the Board was then taken by the Local Scout Troops.
