Adair Co. Bus Driver Appreciation Breakfast By Donna Grant On Thursday, October 28, 2021, Adair County Transportation Director Steve Burton had breakfast for bus drivers and bus monitors. In the photo with bus drivers and Mr. Burton are Bank Representatives Andrea Waggener and Mandy Withers Cross. The local banks, Bank of Columbia, United Citizens Bank, Community Trust Bank, and First and Farmers Bank gave shirts out to every bus driver to show their appreciation. Ms. Pam Hancock with McDonalds gave each bus driver a Value Meal Card. On behalf of myself, Steve Burton, and all of our bus drivers we want to say "Thank You" to everyone for showing their appreciation. Bus driving is not always an easy job but it is a rewarding one. Carol Perkins: Is That You? Previous Column: The Worm Wrestling Contest By Carol Perkins As Guy and I were leaving the famous Pigeon Forge restaurant The Apple Barn, someone behind said, "Carol?" I turned and a lady was coming toward me. In a flash, I recognized my college friend, Rosalind Glasscock (now Gaddie) whom I had not seen since we graduated from EKU in 1968. (We had connected on Facebook not long ago.) Rosalind and I met when we checked into our freshman dorm, Burnam Hall, the oldest dorm on campus. Her roommate was Donna Hourigan (both from Gravel Switch) and mine was my cousin Roberta. (Donna would later become my roommate.) I remember how shocked we were at the inside of the dorm. The common areas were straight from the 1930s: old and sagging. The floors squeaked, the paint was chipped off the walls, pipes hung visibly from the ceilings, and the furniture was well-worn. I wondered how I could live in such a rundown place, but that attitude soon changed. Low vaccination rates keeping Adair, Casey in the orange Find your vaccination site: Visit vaccines.gov, TJRegionalHealth.org/vaccine, or call 1-800-232-0233 now. According to a news release from Tracy Aaron, Health Education Director/PIO with the Lake Cumberland District Health Department, COVID-19 cases are declining in the District, with two notable exceptions. Positive COVID 19 cases reported this past week was 559, which is the lowest number of positive cases since the week of July 31st. We have two counties (Adair and Casey) that are in the orange, which means that accelerated spread is occurring (greater than 10 - 25 cases per 100K). Not coincidentally, Adair and Casey have the lowest vaccination rates in the district, as of 10/20/2021:
