Letter: Pyrus, KY

Jason Curry writes:
Phyrrus Nelson and his wife, Mary, are buried in the Henderson Cemetery on Highway 61 North. This cemetery is across the road from my house. Mary was a Henderson before marrying Phyrrus. They have a very nice stone. However, his name is spelled "PYRRHUS" on the gravestone. There is quite a bit of information on this family on findagrave.com.

By Tpr. Matt Sudduth

Frankfort, KY - On Friday, October 15, 2021, Gov. Andy Beshear and the Kentucky State Police announced that 16 telecommunicators representing 11 posts located throughout the commonwealth have graduated KSP's in-house telecommunications academy.

Among the graduates were Abigale Morgan, Sydney Perkins, and Shawna Hannie from Post 15 in Columbia.

This year's Charlotte Tanner Valedictorian Award has been awarded to Shawna Hannie and Abigale Morgan, who will share the honor of valedictorian with grade point averages of 98.25%.

"Today's telecommunicator graduates will be hearing from our community members, often on the worst days of their lives. Whether that caller is experiencing a personal trauma, or during the illness, injury or loss of a loved one, I know our newest telecommunicators will work hard to be a calm voice amidst chaos, providing comfort and instruction until help arrives," said Gov. Beshear. "To all of you who graduate today and join Team Kentucky, thank you. Kentucky will be safer because of your service and dedication."

Letter: Pyrus needs to be added to community map

Phillip Coffey writes:
Pyrus, KY is not shown on map shown of Adair County. It is where Great Aunt Minnie Coffey had Vance store, snuggled between Keltner and Tarters Chapel. Aunt Minnie was Mark Parnell's Great Grandmother. Confident he has memorabilia from that store/Post Office.

Mark's Great Uncle Bradford Parnell is listed as being from Pyrus, KY as listed on the WWI soldiers list in WWI on the Bank of Columbia building.

I have stacked a lot of hay in that [Parnell's] store building in my day - swapping work with Enos Moss who owned the building at the time. Did not know the history of the building at the time. Knew it was Aunt Minnie's store. Too hot at the time to have such discussions.
