Letter: Tough times

Kathryn Krug writes:
You say "bring the offenders to justice." On the other hand, could the county provide some help or advice for those who live outside city limits and do not have the money to pay for a garbage service?

Seriously, these are tough times.

Human trafficking sting rescues 21 victims, nets 46 arrests

By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY - On Wednesday, September 1, 2021, Gov. Andy Beshear announced that Operation United Front - a multistate human trafficking sting carried out Aug. 26 by 29 agencies across Kentucky - rescued 21 victims, including two minors, and yielded 46 arrests.

The 12-state human trafficking operation, led by the Missouri Attorney General's Office and Missouri Highway Patrol, is believed to be the first multistate operation of its kind.

Kentucky conducted four trafficking operations simultaneously in Bowling Green, Elizabethtown, McCracken County and Northern Kentucky. The Kentucky State Police (KSP) organized and led the commonwealth's effort. To read about those arrested and charged click here: KSP-Human-Trafficking-Arrests (PDF).

"Operation United Front is a great example of creating a better and safer Kentucky, one that is free of this hideous crime," Gov. Beshear said. "Thank you to all the law enforcement agencies and organizations involved for rescuing these victims and holding these heinous offenders accountable. Unfortunately, this crime is occurring in every county, in every community across the commonwealth, but we will keep fighting to make life better and safer for all Kentuckians, especially our children."

Officials in participating states rescued a total of 59 victims, providing needed medical services to 41, and arrested 102 suspects across the country in connection with human trafficking. Each state conducted its own operation simultaneously, while sharing information with the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Missouri Attorney General's Office.

Employment help offered at Regional KY Career Centers

By Kevin Kinnaird

Frankfort, KY - As federal pandemic unemployment insurance (UI) programs expire on September 6, 2021, claimants who need help finding work or career services can turn to more than a dozen Kentucky Career Center offices across the commonwealth for help.

Staff in each of the regional centers can provide job leads and job search assistance as well as adult education and vocational rehabilitation services, said Labor Cabinet Secretary Jamie Link. He also said staff in centers could provide information about apprenticeship opportunities and help career professionals overhaul and polish their resumes.

"Career center employees have a thumb on the pulse of the local economy in each region, and they know who is hiring and how to get people in touch," Link said. "If you are looking for a job, it's a great place to start, and everyone is welcome - those services do not require an appointment in most of the Kentucky Career Centers."

TJRH adds new Dermatology Clinic in Glasgow

By Stacey Biggs

To meet the needs of an ever-increasing number of patients seeking Dermatology services, T.J. Regional Health is pleased to announce the addition of a new Dermatology Clinic, which opened to patients in mid-July.

Located at the T.J. Specialty Services Center at 1337 C North Race Street, Access Dermatology is staffed by James Allred, MD and Sherelen Hodges, APRN. Both providers are accepting new patients.

The demand for Dermatology services in Southcentral Kentucky far outweighs the number of providers, with patients often waiting months to get an appointment. Dr. Allred and T.J. Regional Health have an overlapping and shared philosophy to prioritize patients first, making this expansion the perfect fit for the community.

Dr. Allred stated, "Patients having to wait three or four months for an appointment is just unacceptable to me. We use the latest scheduling technology to ensure that patients can get in to see us in a timely manner."

LETTER: put cameras on the dumpsters

James Roberts writes:
Most of the general public doesn't care about themselves or their fellow man. That being said, with every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

So my advice would be to put up wildlife trail cameras discreetly and signage to catch the abusers to bring them to justice. They need to be placed to get license plate numbers, etc. Maybe this will help deter the culprits.
Just my opinion. - James
