Every Adair Co. student eats free all year

From Dayna Parnell, Assistant Food Service/Finance Director
Adair County Schools

Adair County Food Service Program is participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) that allows all students to receive free breakfast and free lunch for the 2021-2022 school year. Your child's participation in breakfast and lunch will be essential to continue to offer all school meals free for our children!

All students must take the required food components to make a reimbursable meal or they will have to pay for each item and will not qualify for a free meal.

Your child may continue to purchase extra food items or a la carte items at a set price. Board Policy states that students are not allowed to charge extra food items. So please inform your child of this policy as cashiers will not allow charging of any items, no exceptions! For your convenience, use My School Bucks to deposit money into your child's lunch/breakfast account and erase the agony of lost money for these items.

Cumberland Co. to transition driver licensing in August

By Naitore Djigbenou/Chuck Wolfe

Frankfort, KY - Nine more Kentucky counties will make the transition in August to a new, secure driver-licensing model, administered by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC), that gives Kentuckians more choices and modern services.

Making the transition in August will be Bath, Carter, Crittenden, Cumberland, Jackson, Lawrence, Lyon, McLean and Warren counties. The Office of Circuit Court Clerk in each of those counties will cease in-person driver licensing services on Aug. 23, 2021 and licensing services will instead be performed at KYTC's regional offices. With the August transition, 49 of Kentucky's 120 counties will have made the transfer of services. Locally, Adair, Casey, Green, Metcalfe, and Russell counties made the transition earlier in 2021.

The traditional issuance system of licenses and permits initiated at the Office of Circuit Court Clerk in each county is being phased out. It is being replaced by a network of KYTC Driver Licensing Regional Offices intentionally located across the state.

Eighteen regional offices have been opened statewide to date, including one in Columbia, with more to come. KYTC and Kentucky's circuit court clerks are working together to smoothly complete the transition statewide by June 30, 2022.

Board seeks input on use of ARP funds

The Adair County Board of Education is in the process of developing a plan for allocating the district's ARP funds. The American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act provides money to the Elementary and Secondary Schools Emergency Relief Fund to help schools safely reopen, sustain safe operations and address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on students.

In order to help direct the spending of these funds, the Board of Education is seeking input from teachers and staff, students, parents/guardians of students, and community members, through an online survey.

Letter: Voice for the animals

Marie Freeman writes:
After living beside the puppy mill busted in March this is such a welcome read! For almost 4 years I have listen to over 100 dogs bark day and night. Many of them in excruciating pain obviously! With very little help from county officials. Until recently. Difficulty coming from lack of laws for enforcement, or even inspection. The lack of laws is what attracts people to the area to do this. Thank you Adair County for standing up and doing what needs to be done to stop this. I read what was written, very impressed. I hope it's not changed much. And signed quickly. Kind regards --Marie
