Susan Lyon Sandidge, 78, Metcalfe County, KY (1943-2021)

What an obituary often doesn't say is how the world blossomed when the deceased had shared their life and brought others into the world. It doesn't say that Sue was a lovely Missourian brought home to Edmonton by an awesome cousin, Pinkey Sandidge, to be welcomed by his mother, Isabelle and grandmother Addie Turner Leftwich, and all the rest of us. Sue was one of our Edmonton girls and she will be missed by all the family. - Linda Waggener

Susan Lyon Sandidge, age 78, of Edmonton, KY passed away Thursday, July 22, 2021 at her residence. Born March 26, 1943 in Stoutland, MO, she was a daughter of the late Leonard and Zelpha Burke Lyon.

She was retired from Sumitomo and was baptized at Pleasant Hill Church of Christ and attended South Edmonton Church of Christ.

August Genealogical Society presentation postponed

By Mike Watson

The Adair Co. Genealogical Society's scheduled presentation for August 2, 2021, has been postponed for the time being. This is due to the rising number of Covid cases in this area and across the state.

This was a tough decision, but for the continued safety of our attendees, presenters, and members, we felt this was the right choice. We apologize to all those looking forward to our first meeting of this new era of togetherness--but our new era will just be postponed.

We also thank Mrs. Christa Montgomery Gimbel for preparing a great presentation, then having to deal with cancellation.

Carol Perkins: Lanny Nunn and Olivia de Havilland

Previous Column: A patient, patient

By Carol Perkins

What has happened to Metcalfe County High School graduates has always been of great interest to me. Although I have kept up with Lanny Nunn since we graduated back in the sixties, I really haven't known much about his career and where his life has led him.

A few years ago, I reached out to Lanny (Lannes William Nunn) and his sister Stephanie, who were living in Bowling Green, and Judy and I had lunch with them and visited in their home. Stephanie retired early because of health problems, but Lanny continued to work as a hairdresser, two or three days a week, spanning a career of over fifty-seven years. Lanny was younger than us, but he grew up in Muncie Court (a town kid) and was part of our lives. His father, JT Nunn of Nunn Drugstore and his mother Dorothy opened their homes to us teens.

Recently, Lanny and I talked and he sent a story I want to share that involves long-term penpals he established with Academy Award winning actress Olivia de Havilland (Gone with the Wind), whom he met while working at the Executive Inn Salon in Owensboro. She was in town to present an Award.

In Lanny's words:
