Legislative panel takes pulse of first responders

Frankfort, KY - Kentucky lawmakers heard testimony today on how first responders across the state have held up during COVID-19.

"Our EMS agencies have struggled with a multitude of challenges," said Michael Poynter, executive director of the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services. He was testifying before the Interim Joint Committee on Veterans, Military Affairs and Public Protection.

Poynter rattled off the challenges. They include employees unable to work due to quarantine, shortages of personal protective equipment and the additional costs of it all. Many of the challenges were echoed by representatives for firefighters, the Kentucky Fraternal Order of Police and Kentucky State Police - all of whom testified at the meeting.

Governor orders flags to half-staff Thurs for Carney and Buford

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Andy Beshear has ordered flags at all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Thursday, July 22, in honor of two state legislators who passed away this month:
  • Rep. John "Bam" Carney of Campbellsville passed away July 17 at age 51. He represented Adair and Taylor counties. Rep. Carney will be interred Thursday in Campbellsville.

  • Sen. Tom Buford of Nicholasville passed away July 6 at age 72. He represented Garrard, Jessamine, Mercer and Washington counties, along with part of Fayette.

LWC Men's Cross Country 2020 Rewind

The Lindsey Wilson men's cross country team competed and won all three events they participated in during their 2020 regular season. The Blue Raiders continued their season with a third-place finish at the Mid-South Conference Championships and a 38th program appearance in the NAIA Nationals.

Levi Owens recorded the top individual finishing spot for the Blue Raiders, notching first place at the Chick-Fil-A Invitational. Owens also rolled in the best individual finishing time for Lindsey Wilson of 25:59.7 at the NAIA Nationals.

Schools and first responders discuss school safety practices

From Adair County Schools

On July 19, 2021, over 40 community first responders, state and regional representatives and school administrators came together to discuss safe schools practices. Everything from fire drills to lockdown procedures and bus practices were discussed, reviewed and adjusted as needed.

Robbie Harmon, Adair County Schools Safe Schools Coordinator says, "This meeting is an annual occurrence to make sure that there are open lines of communication between our schools and first responders." He goes on to say, "We live in a community that truly believes in collaboration and knows the value of school safety. This is such a blessing for our students, staff, visitors and community as a whole."

The meeting agenda included discussion over current practices in most every emergency situation.

TJRH Senior Health Fair, Thu 29 July 2021

T.J. Regional Health will be hosting a Senior Health Fair at Lera B. Mitchell Clubhouse located at 1214 South Green Street, Glasgow, KY, from 7amCT to NoonCT on Thursday, July 29, 2021. The health fair is free for any community member that is 60 years of age or older.

The health fair will include a lipid panel that includes total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, Triglycerides and Glucose. The free event will also have bone density screenings, height and weight checks, blood pressure and body mass index. You are asked not to eat or drink the morning of the test. Join us for giveaways, health education and a free lunch.

Storage building fire contained in Campbellsville

Campbellsville Fire-Rescue


Campbellsville Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a report of a Multi Unit Storage Facility structure fire Saturday, July 17, 2021 on Laura Sue Humphress Drive. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the attic and eves of the building.

Firefighters made an interior attack on the fire and contained the fire to two individual units. Firefighters extinguished the fire and provided overhaul.

Margaret Robertson, 68, Jamestown, KY (1952-2021)

Margaret Robertson of Jamestown passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021, at her residence. She was 68 years old.

A religious service will be held at 1pmCT on Thursday, July 22, 2021, at H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel, 202 N. Main St., Jamestown, KY, with Bro. Herl D. Robertson and Bro. Stevie Roy officiating. Interment will follow at Jamestown Cemetery Jamestown, KY.

Friends may visit on Thursday from 11amCT until the time of the funeral service at 1pmCT at H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel.
