Rebecca Ann (Becky) Conover Strange, 46, Knifley, KY (1975-2021)

Rebecca Ann "Becky" Conover Strange of Knifley passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021, at TJ Health/Columbia Emergency Room as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was 46 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 10amCT on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Troy Long officiating. Burial will follow in Freedom Cemetery.

Visitation is requested after 4pmCT on Wednesday.

Bible School at New Hope Separate Baptist Church

New Hope Separate Baptist Church will be having a one-day all-day Bible School starting at 9amCT on Saturday, July 24, 2021. Our theme will be "Fishers of Men." We will have classes for all ages. Lunch will be served. Everyone is invited.

First AC Little League team plays in Final Four

The Adair County Little League 8U is the first ever to make it to the final four of the state tournament.

The team plays the winner of North Oldham/North Laurel game tonight, Monday, July 12, 2021 at 6:30pmCT at Lake Reba Park in Richmond.

Team members are: Bennett McGaha, Fischer Brown, Lundon Moore, Hayes Burton, Trey "Bear" Burwash, Knox Burton, Carter Albrektson, Jase Corneilson, Greyson Dudley, Eli Coots and Michael Hargis.

Coaches: Jacob Burton, Chad Moore and Chase Brown.

ACSO: Traffic stop leads to felony drug charges

On Saturday, July 10, 2021, at approximately 1amCT, the Adair County Sheriff's Office initiated a traffic stop on Hughes Road, four miles south of Columbia.

Deputies had been patrolling area due to multiple complaints of possible drug activity.

Adair County Sheriff's Deputy Kenny Perkins initiated the stop, and after roadside investigation, it was believed that narcotics were in the vehicle, and a search was conducted.

Adair County Youth Leadership Program 2021

We are taking applications for the Youth Leadership Program for 2021. This is open to youth who are middle school age (6th, 7th, & 8th graders). The deadline to apply is August 9, 2021. Only online applications will be taken, and the application must be filled out by the youth and signed by the parents/guardians.

6th, 7th, and 8th graders are eligible. Interested youth should:
  • Demonstrate leadership in school and/or community activities.
  • Express an interest in furthering their knowledge of the Adair County area.
  • Commit to 100% attendance at all sessions.
  • Receive a recommendation from their principal or counselor and approval to participate.
  • Participants must have a passing grade of at least a B average and must maintain this average throughout the school year. Participants must not get into any discipline problems during school year. If a participant drops below a B average or gets into discipline problems, then he/she will be dropped from the program.

Lucille (Sell) Garner, 84, Burkesville, KY (1937-2021)

Mrs. Lucille (Sell) Garner, of Green Grove Road in Burkesville passed away Sunday, July 11, 2021 at the Cumberland County Hospital. She was 84 years old.

A celebration of Ms. Lucille Garner's life will be held at 1pmCT on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N Main St, Burkesville, KY. Burial will follow in the Modoc Cemetery.

The family will receive friends after 4pmCT on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 until the funeral hour on Wednesday.

Outage continues for vehicle transfers, other services OK

Once again our system is down for any transactions for vehicles. We are able to do boats, handicap placards, and liens. The Deed Room and Records Room are fully operational. As always we are here for any questions.

Avis McLean, 86, Columbia, KY (1934-2021)

Avis (McElroy) McLean of Columbia passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Cumberland Valley Manor in Burkesville. She was 86 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 1pmCT on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Rev. C.R. Payne officiating. Burial will follow in Columbia Cemetery.

Visitation is requested after 5pmCT on Monday.

ACES School-Based Decision Making Council meeting

KDFWR Traffic Safety Checkpoint locations for July 2021

Kentucky Conservation Officers will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints throughout Green River Wildlife Management Area during the month of July to check motorist for compliance with motor vehicle laws including driving under the influence statutes. Conservation Officers utilize safety checkpoints in an effort to promote safety for motorists and outdoor enthusiasts using WMA's and to provide a deterrent for those who violate Kentucky Revised Statutes and Kentucky Administrative Regulations.

Below is a list of supervisory-approved traffic safety checkpoint locations for Adair and Taylor Counties:
  • Adair County - Snake Creek Road: Snake Creek Boat Ramp Green River Wildlife Management Area
  • Taylor County - Wilson Creek Road: Green River Wildlife Management Area
Traffic safety checkpoints allow Conservation Officers to periodically focus its efforts on checking for violations that ultimately increase the safety of the citizens of the Commonwealth who recreate on Kentucky's Wildlife Management Areas.

We will be using Infinite Campus Online Registration (OLR) again this year. This will save you time and can be done in a few easy steps right from the comfort of your couch, dining room table or office!

Online Registration (OLR) is now open to returning students, as of Monday, July 12, 2021. Use the Infinite Campus Parent Portal site to register returning students, or to add a student for families who already have a student enrolled.

Fading sign proposed to be replaced by Scouts

Dear Mayor Hoots and Columbia City Council:

I am writing to you as a citizen of our community, and as a Boy Scout who wants to make a difference in our town. I saw an opportunity on Greensburg Road to improve first impressions of our wonderful city.

I am currently planning the groundwork for my Eagle Scout project and would like to seek your permission to remove the dilapidated sign and erect a new sign. I have enclosed pictures of the old sign, so you can observe for yourself the current condition of the sign.
