Funeral services are scheduled for 2pmCT on Sunday, July 11, 2021, at Bernard Funeral Home, 367 N. Main St., Russell Springs, KY, with Brother Garnett Hammond officiating. LCDHD Weekly COVID-19 Public Information Brief 7/9/2021 By Amy Tomlinson Lake Cumberland District Health Department We added 69 new cases this week compared to 37 new cases the week prior. We have 80 active cases today compared to 44 last Thursday. We have 10 hospitalized cases today compared to 7 last Thursday. We experienced 1 COVID-19 related death this week. Our 7-day-average incidence rate of new cases per 100,000 is 5.39 today compared to 2.52 last Friday. So, all in all, a week of sharp increases. This week should be a warning that COVID-19 is not over. We saw significant clusters of new cases this week tied to 1 area business, 2 church camps, and 1 church. We keep reading on social media that the vaccine is not effective. That is false. While no vaccine is 100% effective, take some time to digest the following local information. Since the vaccine started becoming available (1/5/21), about 98.1% of our area's new cases had taken no doses of the vaccine. Also, of our 111 total deaths since the vaccine started becoming available, only 2 had received their 1st dose of the vaccine and none were fully vaccinated. Also, of our 449 hospitalizations tied to COVID-19 after the vaccine started becoming available, only 19 had been vaccinated (13 fully and 6 more having received only 1 dose of a 2-dose series). KYTC: Move to new system is cause of registration woes Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises Kentuckians that all County Clerk offices are temporarily unable to process vehicle-related transactions due to intermittent system issues. County Clerks use KYTC's Automated Vehicle Information System (AVIS) to process transactions such as vehicle registrations, transfers and vehicle titling. "Our team of programmers is working diligently to identify the issue and restore service as soon as possible," said Department of Vehicle Registration Commissioner Matt Cole. A transfer of systems over the holiday weekend from AVIS to a new inventory system caused a service interruption. The new system is part of an effort to modernize license plate production and to support the cabinet's long-term goal of transferring all motor vehicle transactions from the 40-year-old AVIS system to a new KAVIS system. No driver information was impacted. Kentuckians are advised to postpone transactions until next week if possible. Otherwise, customers should contact the local County Clerk office to ensure it is open for non-vehicular business and be prepared for delays.
