Gore family picture and a keepsake

2021-07-02 - Adair and Russell Counties - Photo from Lou Ann Gore Flanagan.
Lou Ann writes, "Here's proof I come from a long line of fair bears. This was in my Great-grandmother Miriam Gore's items. The shell is inscribed "Columbia Fair" and is dated 1909. She would have been six and I'm sure this was a great prize to her then.

Her son, Lenwood (Dagwood) Gore worked the Adair County Fair. Her grandson, Charles, great granddaughter Lou Ann and great great granddaughter, Katie, would be a part of the Russell County Fair. Pictured from left in back are Lou Ann Gore Flanagan, Lenwood and Charles Gore. In front Miriam Gore holds Katie Flanagan.

Carol Perkins: A visit with the grandsons

Previous Column: The telephone is ringing

By Carol Perkins

For Father's Day, Jon devised a plan for Guy. The gift involved the Texas grandsons. Jon gave his dad a one-way ticket to Austin, an overnight stay, and a road trip with Luke (18) and Noah (14) back to Kentucky with Luke and Guy rotating driving duties.

Guy left for Austin on Saturday and by Monday night they were in Kentucky. During those long hours on the road, Guy had a chance to be alone with the young men, which doesn't happen often, if ever. Then the plan continued. The boys were to visit here until Friday the 2nd and then I was going to make the road trip back to Texas with them and spend a week! As I sit at my computer, my bags are packed, and we leave in the morning. Where was Eme? She had a beach trip planned during this time. This gift keeps giving.

When young people are around, life is better. At least that's true for me.
