Adair County Elementary School SBDM Council meeting

The Adair County Elementary School's School-Based Decision Making Council will have a special called regular meeting at 3:30pmCT on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, in the conference room at Adair County Elementary School, 800 Indian Drive, Columbia, Kentucky.

The purpose of the meeting will be to conduct regular business and review applications for a teacher vacancy.

Barn Lot Theater announces Farce of Nature opening

Barn Lot Theater announces Farce of Nature opening June 17

Barn Lot Theater, the nonprofit performing arts organization that features live performances in Edmonton, KY, will debut the hilarious comedy Farce of Nature at 7pmCT on Thursday, June 17, 2021. This will be their first play inside their theater space since the pandemic shut down live performances nationwide in 2020.

Barn Lot Theater is located at 207 S. Main St., Edmonton, Kentucky. Show dates are June 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th, 24th, 25th, 26th, and 27th at 7pmCT on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday performances, and 2:30pmCT on Sundays. Masks will be optional for patrons. Present your vaccine card for a free small popcorn!

Farce of Nature highlights a day in the life of the Wilburn family of Mayhew, Arkansas. D. Gene Wilburn owns a fishing lodge that has fallen on hard times, but that's the least of his worries on this day. His discontented wife, Wanelle, is frustrated with their love life and believes D. Gene has a wandering eye. His gun-happy ex-cop sister, Maxie, uses the lodge as a safe house to protect mob snitch Carmine DeLuca, who is in the witness protection program.

CPD: Midnight traffic stop leads to arrest

Soon after MidnightCT on Monday, June 7, 2021, the Columbia Police Department initiated a traffic stop on Campbellsville Street near the intersection of Oak Street.

After making contact with the driver, a strong odor of marijuana was detected within the vehicle.

Once the party was outside of the vehicle, a male subject was found to be in possession of marijuana and suspected methamphetamine. He additionally had two active warrants.

ACSO: Single vehicle collision on KY 80

On Friday, June 4, 2021, at 1330 hours, Chief Deputy Brandon Hitch was dispatched to an injury collision on KY Highway 80 East.

Preliminary investigation shows that Mechelle McFarland, 42, of Russell Springs, was traveling west on KY 80 in a 2010 Nissan when she lost control of her vehicle. She over-corrected and the vehicle overturned, coming to rest on its top in the ditch line.

McFarland and her 4 juvenile children were all treated on scene by Adair County EMS and then transported to TJ Health Columbia.

The Adair County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by Adair County EMS and the Columbia-Adair County Fire Department. The Sheriff's Office is continuing the investigation.

Josh and Ava Dicken win Anglers of the Year

Josh Dicken and his 9-year-old daughter Ava Dicken competed and won the Crappie Masters Kentucky Club State Championship on May 21 and 22, 2021 at Taylorsville Lake. The duo had a weight of 14.79 lbs over the two-day tournament, putting them in 1st place for the State Classic, and qualifying the team for the Crappie Masters National Championship.

The duo also won the Crappie Masters Kentucky Club Points Race, making them Angler of the Year and Youth Angler of the Year.

Josh is a Kentucky Fishing Guide with Camo Crappie Guide Services, and provides fishing tips on his Youtube Channel - Camo Crappie. Ava is the nine year old daughter of Josh and Alesha Dicken.

Full-time undergraduate students with a semester grade-point average of 3.4 to 3.79 are named to the Dean's List. Students with a GPA of 3.8 to 4.0 are named to the President's List.

Barbara Davis Hampton, 78, Liberty, KY (1942-2021)

Barbara Davis Hampton of Liberty passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at Baptist Health in Lexington. She was 78 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 1pmET on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville St, Liberty, KY. Burial will follow in Hustonville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11amET to 1pmET on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

Green River Industrial Park progress report

The second entrance and road into the Green River Industrial Park is really looking good. All trees are down and burning in two piles. It is really looking good. Thanks to Greg Greer & EDA Board Member Chester Taylor for mowing pipelines.

Part of the back side is already graded. This shows great teamwork on decision making and taking prompt action. Thanks & appreciation to all.

CTC Crusade fundraising sets record in 2021

Chief Chris Taylor has released the Crusade for Children fundraising totals for 2021 for Campbellsville Fire-Rescue. Their Parking Lot Fundraiser in early May added over $7,000, leading to a 24% increase over their 2020 totals, and setting a new record.

CPD: Motorcycle operator arrested for numerous violations

The Columbia Police Department attempted a traffic stop for speeding early Monday morning, June 7, 2021, shortly after 2amCT on Campbellsville Road/HWY 55 North.

A motorcycle operator refused to stop, reaching speeds over 100 MPH. Pursuit was called off for safety concerns.

After continuing to observe within the area, the motorcycle and operator were located parked on North Bramlett Street, where a male party was taken into custody and found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine.

Betty Lou (Ford) Cox, 84, Elkhorn, KY (1936-2021)

Betty Lou Ford Cox of Elkhorn passed away on Sunday, June 6th, 2021, peacefully surrounded by her loving family at her home in Elkhorn, Kentucky. Whe was 84 years old.

The funeral will be held at 1pmET on Thursday, June 10, 2021, at Feathersburg Church of God in Elkhorn, Kentucky. Bro. Alex Cox, Bro. Bob Langlois, and Bro. Chris Copher will be officianting the service. Burial will follow in Callahan Cemetery of Elkhorn, Kentucky.

Visitation is requested from 5pmET until 8pmET on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at Auberry Funeral Home in downtown Campbellsville, Kentucky.

Visitation will continue at the church at 9amET on Thursday, June 10, 2021 until time for the funeral.

Social distancing guidelines and mask are required for those that are not yet fully vaccinated.
