Health Department responds to critical question

Each week the Lake Cumberland District Health Department responds to questions from media and community about COVID-19. Following is a portion of one of those sessions:

Criticism from a questioner:
It seems all you guys at the health department did was "count beans". How was this helpful?

LCDHD response:
a. That bean counting is referred to as epidemiology. It shows us where cases are spiking or declining and directs the overall public health response.

b. Outside of our case reporting, we had other duties assigned to the health departments from DPH. Early in the pandemic, all public front facing businesses were closed. Our job as the health department was to ensure that those that did stay open did so safely.

LCDHD COVID-19 Public Information Brief 4/28/2021

By Amy Tomlinson
Lake Cumberland District Health Department

We added more cases today than for the same time period last week, so our 7-day average incidence rate per 100,000 went up also.

Our 7-day average incidence chart is now showing 2 counties in the "green-on-track" range, Clinton, and Cumberland; 5 counties in the "yellow-community-spread" category, Green, McCreary, Pulaski, Russell, and Wayne; and 3 counties in the "orange-accelerated" range of community-spread: Adair, Casey, and Taylor. We are thankful to not have any "red-critical" counties now. Keep in mind, some of our 7-day-incidence data will be skewed over the next few days as we are reconciling our data against the state data.

Statewide Testing Positivity Rate: 3.11%.
