Letter: Where were you when JFK was shot

Kerry Robertson writes:
I was barely three but I remember standing beside my mother in our living room in Hamilton, OH, as she watched the news and cried. It is my first memory of an adult's tears, and it scared me. I patted her leg and said over and over, "Mommy, okay?"

DPH issues advisory for recent travelers

By Susan Dunlap

Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky Department for Public Health (DPH) today issued an advisory for Kentuckians who have traveled to states reporting high numbers of COVID-19. The advisory recommends a 14-day self-quarantine for travelers who went to any of eight states reporting positive testing rate equal to or greater than 15% for COVID-19 testing. The advisory also includes one state quickly approaching a positive testing rate of 15% and one U.S. Territory.

States were identified from data reported to Johns Hopkins University of Medicine Coronavirus Resource Center. They include Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Nevada, South Carolina, and Texas.

The rate of positive patient tests in Mississippi is nearing 15%, so travelers to Mississippi are also asked to voluntarily self-isolate for 14 days. Puerto Rico is the U.S. Territory that has been added.

Dr. Steven Stack, Kentucky's Public Health Commissioner, stressed that this is a recommendation and not a mandate. "I am appealing to Kentuckians who have traveled to these states or to Puerto Rico to consider the interest of your health and the health of others. Please, if you have been to any of these places, stay home for 14 days, starting from the date you left that location."

By Sheriff Josh Brockman
Adair County Sheriff's Office

AG announces $1M settlement for KY Medicaid program

By Elizabeth Kuhn

Frankfort, KY - Attorney General Daniel Cameron announced today that Kentucky's Medicaid Program will receive $929,016.95 as part of a settlement regarding allegations of fraud against Universal Health Services, Inc. ("UHS, Inc."), a for-profit holding company, which directly or indirectly owns the assets or stock of inpatient and residential psychiatric and behavioral health facilities, and UHS of Delaware, Inc., a subsidiary of UHS, Inc., which provides management services to UHS, Inc. and its subsidiaries (collectively, "UHS").

UHS is based in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, and is one of the nation's largest providers of hospital and healthcare services. The government alleges that UHS's conduct violated the Federal False Claims Act and Kentucky's Medicaid Fraud statute, resulting in the submission of false claims to the Kentucky Medicaid program.

Letter: Response to Where Were You

Paul W. Patton writes:
When JFK was shot I was in my office at First Christian Church in Junction City, KY, preparing a church publication. No TV or radio was in the office but my wife, Carol rushed from the parsonage bringing me the sad news. I dropped to my knees in prayer for the Kennedy family and our country.

Letter: Where were you the day JFK was shot?

Doug Peterson writes:
I was on a Coast Guard Cutter 20 miles off the Oregon coast on our weekly safety patrol and didn't hear about the shooting until we received the news by morse code message until 12 hours after it happened.

I still remember the exact verbage of that radio message. Since we were patrolling off the coast, we could not pick up local radio or TV to get any details. The next week (7 days later), we finally came back into home port, having missed all the news and funeral coverage. The nation had changed, from optimism to somber reality. It was quite a transition.
