COVID-19 Update: there is a growth in cases

By Jelaine Harlow
Health Education Coordinator/Public Information Officer

As of yesterday Adair County has 4 active COVID-19 cases, one hospitalized and 3 on home isolation. We had one new case yesterday which is the hospitalized case. We have 31 active cases in our district across 7 of our 10 counties.

We understand that folks are tired of hearing and talking about COVID-19 but we do not believe we have seen the last of it and the case growth backs that up. We urge everyone to take the recommended precautions such as wearing a mask in public, continue social distancing as much as possible and be diligent with hand washing and disinfecting.

Governor's Tuesday update: Guidance on public pools

By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY -. (June 16, 2020) - Gov. Andy Beshear on Tuesday updated Kentuckians on steps the state is taking to address the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19).

"Everybody needs to remember that COVID-19 is still out there, it spreads aggressively and it can be deadly. As part of Team Kentucky we all have to do our part and remember there are three things you can do to help stop the spread of COVID," the Governor said. "No. 1: Socially distance, wash your hands and wear a mask; that's critically important. No. 2: Make sure you regularly get tested for COVID-19. We need that all over the commonwealth. And No. 3: If you're contacted by one of our contact tracers, make sure you talk to them. That's how you protect yourself and everybody around you. If we can do those three things, we can continue to reopen Kentucky, to do it safely and to protect one another."

Updated Guidance on Pools, Larger Gatherings
On Tuesday, Gov. Beshear's administration offered updated guidance covering public pools and gatherings of up to 50 people: Guidance for Gatherings of Up To Fifty (50) People (PDF).

Gov. Beshear realeases his tax returns for 2019

By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY - As the commonwealth is focused on defeating COVID-19, Gov. Andy Beshear today showed his ongoing commitment to transparency by releasing his tax returns for 2019 and once again called on other office holders to do the same.

The Governor also released his 2019 Statement of Financial Disclosure and launched a transparency webpage listing executive flight details.

"Elected officials must earn the public's trust and demonstrate that they aren't beholden to any special interests," said Gov. Beshear. "Kentuckians deserve to know their leaders aren't indebted to those whose interests are in conflict with those of the people of the commonwealth."

Gov. Beshear's returns, filed jointly with his wife, Britainy, show he has only one employer - the people of Kentucky. Beshear's adjusted gross income totaled $151,148, which included his salary as Attorney General for most of the calendar year and as Governor for the last three weeks of December along with some stock dividends.

Gov. Beshear's tax return also shows that his family, like many others across the commonwealth and country, is still paying off student loans.

Standing continues for peace and equality

Taking a stand to show support, unity and solidarity in the fight against racism and violence, peaceful demonstrators joined together in front of the Courthouse Annex for brief talks and a march around the square one week ago today.

And the message continues to be echoed.

Speakers were Russ Wheat, the Pastor of Columbia's Second Christian Church; Jason Cross, Columbia's Police Chief; Sammy Hughes, Adair County teacher and historian; and Brett Bradford, area representative for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Many skin colors, especially white skin colors, are standing and speaking out to show support for African Americans in the wake of the murder of George Floyd captured on video, starting a movement in protest against racial violence.
