COVID-19 update: Adair County hits 100 total cases

Cases are on the rise locally. The chart reported daily shows that Adair County has hit 100 total diagnosed cases since the pandemic began, the highest of all ten counties. The LCDHD believes that COVID-19 can be contained in the general public, without another economic shut-down, if most people will observe the precautions...

By Amy Tomlinson, Lake Cumberland District Health Department

Monday, June 8, 2020 -- We are happy to report no new deaths, or hospitalizations today. There were eight new cases added today: two in Adair, a 59-year-old female, and a 6-month-old female; five in Russell, a 4-year-old female, a 31-year-old male, a 47-year-old female, a 34-year-old female, and a 12-year-old male.

All of these are on home isolation. We also added one additional case to our “Total Cases”, but not to our “Current Cases” (they were added and released on the same day): a 47-year-old male from Taylor who had the anti-body test, whose symptoms were several weeks ago.

Governor's Monday Update

By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Andy Beshear on Monday updated Kentuckians on the state's efforts to fight the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) and address the deep societal problems laid bare by the deadly pandemic.

"Already with COVID-19, the world was going to be different afterwards, the United States was going to be different afterwards and Kentucky was going to be different afterwards," said Gov. Beshear. "Our commitment is to make sure it's not just different from a public health perspective, but it is truly different from an equality and a justice perspective."

The Governor and top officials in his administration also spoke about racial disparities in health care access in the commonwealth, a review of criminal justice training protocols, changes in our education system, and updates on skilled nursing facilities and pandemic food benefits.

Letter: Movie in Larry's picture may be Brubaker

I believe that the movie showing at the theater in Larry’s picture with Robert Redford is Brubaker. It was released in June 1980.

From the looks of the trucks in front of Bank of Columbia they would have been late 60’s or early 70’s that would not have been very old at that time.

Just my guess. - James Roberts.

CU: Students completing work in spite of COVID

By Matthew Taylor

Campbelsville, KY - Many of Campbellsville University's programs such as the School of Education's student teaching and the School of Music's senior recitals adjusted to follow COVID-19 protocols in the spring.

All education majors at Campbellsville University are required to complete the School of Education's student teaching program their last semester of their senior year to graduate.

"The student teacher assumes the same responsibilities as the cooperating teacher," Dr. Chuck Hamilton, student teacher coordinator, said.

"This includes planning and delivering instruction, assessing student work, communicating with families, participating in the professional learning community and any other activity that a teacher would be responsible for in their contract," Hamilton said.

The student teaching program was highly affected by COVID-19, and all schools were converted to online or all schoolwork was sent home with students to be completed. Due to the sudden change, all students involved with the student teaching program were no longer able to provide in-person instruction.
