Kentucky Color: A Lavender Beauty By Billy Joe Fudge Late Spring is a time to get up close and personal with this Great Wooded South, Lavender Beauty. As we travel the highways and byways headed to far away destinations in search of vistas and villas with views we may be breezing by a bounty of breathtaking beauty just across the ditch line. Orchard Grass is presently in heavy bloom and in pure stands their lavender haze waving in the wind rivals the grandeur of blue haze found in pure stands of our very own official state grass, Kentucky Bluegrass. Orchard Grass is a great pasture and hay producing grass which for all practical concerns grows well in partial shade. That is why it made and makes such a great ground cover beneath fruit trees. One would suppose that is where it picked up its name. 2020-05-23 07:04:13 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Kentucky Color by Billy Joe Fudge

Commentary: Kentuckians proving we are a great people By Governor Andy Beshear Frankfort, KY - It is hard to believe that Kentucky saw its first confirmed case of COVID-19 just over two and a half months ago. The virus began spreading quickly, escalating like past pandemics such as the Spanish flu. Areas like New York and Louisiana saw spikes that exceeded their health care capacity, and the losses mounted. Here in Kentucky, we took quick and decisive action, declaring a state of emergency after the first known case. We closed schools to in-person classes, had to temporarily close many forward-facing businesses and we asked people to be Healthy at Home. It worked. Kentucky "flattened the curve," stopped the rising rate of infection, and ensured there were enough hospital beds for everyone who needed them.
