LCDHD Guidance for Houses of Worship

As places of worship have been added to Kentucky's Healthy at Work plans for reopening, the health department has added updated guidance for churches who are considering adding in-person gatherings.

In the May 13, 2020, Weekly Media Briefing, LCDHD Environmental Director Stuart Spillman said that Lake Cumberland District Health Department and the Kentucky Department for Public Health "still would recommend that churches meet alternatively, such as over internet or by doing drive-in services," as the best way to keep members healthy and prevent the spread of coronavirus.

He continued, "If churches are to get together inside the building then we need to make sure that people are social distancing and following recommended guidelines."

Gov. Andy Beshear on Friday: Compassion and resilience

Some state parks to reopen June 1, but Lake Cumberland State Resort Park to remain closed, so that it is available for temporary housing for low-acuity patients.

By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Andy Beshear on Friday said Kentuckians are defeating the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) with compassion and resilience.

"Let's remember to keep reaching out to one another, asking how others are doing and if they need help," Gov. Beshear encouraged Kentuckians yesterday. "One of the reasons that we're here today in a better position than most is because we truly care about each other."

Friday, the Governor shared updates regarding the state's fight against COVID-19 and the gradual reopening of the state's economy, including the reopening of tourism and guidance for more businesses.

A trip to Bowling Green, 1930

By JIM

It's easy to take for granted the comforts of modern vehicles and the convenience of good roads. For example, a trip from Columbia to Bowling Green these days takes an hour or thereabout. Making the trek in a howling winter wind? Crank up the heater! Travelling in the sweltering dog days of August? Boy-oh-boy, does that blast of cool, dry air feel good!

This came to mind by way of a chance viewing of an early 1930 sports entry in the Adair County News. It seems the lads of the Lindsey-Wilson hoops and hardwood team had recently gone on a two-game road trip with the first stop in Bowling Green.

Reported The News in the January 30 edition (italics added for emphasis),
"The L.W.C. basketball team left here last Friday morning for Bowling Green, where they played the Western State Normal Squad Freshman that night. They were defeated by the Normal team 34 to 22, which is not surprising in view of the fact that the Lindsey boys had spent most of the day driving through bitter cold over ice covered roads, arriving in Bowling Green thoroughly exhausted a short time before the game."
