April Showers: Ignore the cat, but not the peacock You can be fairly sure that April showers will bring May flowers, but is there any way to tell when the showers are going to come? Probably not but there are a lot of superstitions that try to predict them. Here are some: * A cat washing herself while looking out the window, forecasts rain. This is supposed to be a favorite saying in the state of Maine. But sources say it is false. Seems Maine cats -- and really all cats -- are always looking out the window and grooming themselves. Sadly, it doesn't always rain. Article continues... click title or click here to read whole article. 2020-04-15 19:03:25 | Comments | Printable version

COVID-19 precautions affect coursework for spring classes at CU By Matthew Taylor Campbellsville, KY - For many professors at Campbellsville University, the sudden change to online affected the coursework they had planned for their spring classes. Since March 16, all in-person classes were switched to online to abide to the COVID-19 precautions. Originally, classes were going to resume as normal on March 27, but Campbellsville University's leadership team decided, for the safety of the students, faculty, staff and coaches, to keep all classes on online. "As I used to say in the Army, 'the flash to bang time is very short,' and it was four days from when the university made the decision to suspend classes for two weeks to when they made the decision to make the entire semester online," Col. William Ritter, assistant professor of public relations, said. "Normally, I have several weeks or a month or more to develop and upload coursework for an online class. I found it challenging because it's a lot easier to walk in and teach your class based on your notes than it is to try and remember everything you're going to tell your students so you can record it either audio-wise or video-wise." KFB donates $500K to hunger relief charities By Sean Southard Louisville, KY -- In response to rising food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic, Kentucky Farm Bureau (KFB) Mutual Insurance Company and the Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance Foundation will donate a total of $500,000 to hunger relief charities as part of Agriculture Commissioner Dr. Ryan Quarles' Kentucky Hunger Initiative. The donation is the largest single private donation made as part of the Kentucky Hunger Initiative since Commissioner Quarles launched the effort in 2016. "When we started the Kentucky Hunger Initiative, I knew the ag community would step up to fight hunger like we never had before, but I could not have imagined a half-million-dollar donation from Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance," Commissioner Quarles said. "This donation, in this time, demonstrates how Kentucky agriculture is not only committed to growing food and fiber during a pandemic, but also to marshaling funds to feed vulnerable Kentuckians affected by it. I cannot thank Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance enough, and I look forward to thanking them in person once our time of social distancing has passed."
