Letter: It’s Ed’s birthday in heaven Today is my dear friend Ed Waggener’s Birthday. He will be celebrating it in heaven along with many of our loved ones. I know he watches over us especially his precious wife Miss Linda. I so miss his quick wit. He had a way of adding to just about any story I sent in. He gave this place its name, Miss Victoria’s Pampered Angus Ranch, and that it will remain in his honor. I sure miss our long conversations about whatever the current issue was that day. Happy Birthday Ed from the girls at the Pampered Angus Ranch. - Vicky 2020-03-06 21:21:45 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

Carol Perkins: Six reasons to give an adult time out Previous Column: The Butter Bean Episode By Carol Perkins "Be Good," the mother said as she sends her child home with her grandparents. "You all call me if you need me." She is wasting her words. First, kids are much better behaved without their parents, and second, no grandparent would tattle on a grandchild. At least I wouldn't. Some might threaten to call when the child is jumping from couch to chair to another chair, but grandparents still know how to discipline. The problems arise when two or more children come to visit. Have you noticed that many grandparents refuse to keep more than one at a time? There is a reason for that. When adults tell kids to "be good," I think about how children (and teenagers) might want to say the same thing to their parents. Kids see the goodness in their parents, but they also see times when they would like to put them in time out! What upsets a child the most and makes him nervous and afraid and embarrassed? State budget bill advances to Kentucky House By Rebecca Hanchett, LRC FRANKFORT--A $23-plus billion state spending plan that would provide pay raises for state employees and teachers while beefing up funding for public schools and public pensions has passed the House budget committee and is on its way to the floor of the Kentucky House. House Bill 352 sponsor and House Appropriations and Revenue Committee Chair Steven Rudy, R-Paducah, said the proposed state Executive Branch budget legislation - which would keep the state's debt ratio at the same percentage proposed by Gov. Andy Beshear while maintaining the state's budget reserve trust fund at $392.4 million - is "not the end of the process, but a step." Pay raises of one percent in each of the next two fiscal years for both state and school employees are found in the bill, as are millions of dollars for additional personnel for the Office of the Attorney General and various other constitutional offices.
