State lab began testing for COVID-19 this week

By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY - Today at the Capitol, Governor Andy Beshear, joined by officials from the Kentucky Department for Public Health (DPH), within the Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS), discussed the state's response efforts to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Gov. Beshear and other officials emphasized that there are no COVID-19 cases in the state and provided updates on the state's testing, prevention, coordination, monitoring and scam awareness efforts.

"I want to reassure Kentuckians that we are still at low risk for exposure to the virus at this time," Gov. Beshear said. "Every state without COVID-19 cases has been advised that this is highly likely to change. It is imperative that we be prepared. And that is why we want to keep the public aware of not only our new testing efforts, but the efforts that local public health professionals are making to protect Kentuckians."

Cold for 30 years: Temple Hill Triple Murder

From Barren County Progress

On March 4, 1990, Tommie Ferrell Hale, his wife Nancy and his cousin, Kevin McClard were each shot in the back of the head three time. According to the autopsy findings, the three were shot with a 22 caliber weapon. Days passed. Glen McGuire, a neighbor to the Hale home on Happy Hollow Road near the Barren County Temple Hill community, grew concerned because he had not seen his neighbors. He discovered their lifeless bodies, and called the police.

This month, it has been thirty years since the murders occurred, and although many detectives have investigated these heinous crimes, the leads followed have not been productive.

From the sky above to forest floor.

Mystery Daffodils are on Milltown Portland Road

By Linda Waggener

Good guesses on the location of this Daffodils on the winding road posted last week on ColumbiaMagazine.com.

- Lance Bean wrote and said he believed the photo was made on the scenic "Old Highway 55 going north to Campbellsville" - Taylor County. Good guess, because that is a great road to wander.

- Larry Clark got the road right when he said, "This looks like a set of curves between Milltown and Portland" - Adair County.

- Tojo Phillips nailed the exact location: he wrote that they were just past Milltown Church Road on the old Billy Frank Cobb farm. He recognized it as the route he delivered dairy feed to Billy Frank in the days when he worked for Homer Goodin at M&W Milling.

Thanks for guessing! I wondered when I posted the mystery photo if others would know that spot. Whenever I pass by, I always think of Nancy Cobb who lived there - the professional, kind, compassionate nurse who cared for us at Pen's birth at Adair Memorial Hospital. If you have a mystery photo from your travels, text it anytime to 270-403-0017.
