Letter: About the Scam Warning from Tommy Bailey

Michele Hale writes:
There's another scam that I want to inform everyone about. About 2-3 weeks ago, we got a fraud alert (legitimate) from our credit card company. They had texted us about an Amazon order on our acct. We immediately called their number and had that taken off our acct. They also deactivated our cards and they sent us new ones. So everybody be on the alert. --Michele

HB 21 would mandate coverage for preexisting conditions

Bill eliminates insurers' ability to deny health care coverage to those with preexisting conditions

By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY - Today, Gov. Andy Beshear announced support for a bill sponsored by Rep. Patti Minter of Bowling Green that would eliminate insurers' ability to deny health care coverage to approximately 1.8 million Kentuckians with preexisting medical conditions like asthma, diabetes and cancer.

If passed, the bill (HB 21) will align state laws with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and protect Kentucky families needing access to health care, even if the federal law is overturned in court. The bill applies to private and public insurance plans, including the state health plan, which covers more than 265,000 public employees, educators and pre-65 retirees.

About Daylight Savings Time

Clocks in Kentucky will "spring forward" an hour on Sunday, March 8, 2020. Some Kentucky lawmakers would like to make the change to Daylight Savings Time permanent. Writer Joyce Coomer thinks permanent Standard Time is the more logical solution.

By Joyce Coomer

The time change has never really bothered me, as by the time I get up on Sundays, there could've been a dozen time changes and I would have slept through them. Hearing people complain about the time changes bothers me worse than the time changes.

That being said, there is something critical that needs to be kept in mind -- school children. There have been numerous studies through the years about how much sleep different age groups need, and how sleep is affected by humans' circadian rhythms. Not only would permanently going on DST upset circadian rhythms, it would increase the inattentiveness of children in the morning hours, causing them to miss learning opportunities.
