DOCJT Basic Training Class 508, three local area

Sara A. Coffman and William Z. Johnson, both from the Greensburg Police Department and Zakery Vance from the Barren County Sheriff's Office were among the graduates

Richmond, Ky. (Feb. 28, 2020) - Thirty-one law enforcement officers from agencies across the state graduated Thursday from basic training at the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training.

The graduates of Class 508 completed 20 weeks of training, which consisted of 800 hours of recruit-level instruction. Major training areas included law offenses and procedures, vehicle operations, firearms, investigations, first aid and CPR, patrol procedures, orientation for new law enforcement families and the mechanics of arrest, restraint and control.

History Monday: The Murder of Harry Webb, 1874

The murder of Harry Webb, of Columbia, was never solved. Someone may know the truth of the matter, handed down from a century and a half ago, but we will likely never know the answer to the question--who killed Harry Webb?

This crime has become part of folklore in our county and there are those who say the site of the crime is haunted by a headless ghost. The following is an excerpt from an upcoming publication on crimes of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in Adair County...

The Murder of Harry Webb, 1874

Columbia, Adair County, and Kentucky were baking under the hot summer sun in 1874, Old Sol beat down on man and beast, crops struggled in need of rain. Hard working folk tended to heed the warnings of those who knew about such things, that the heat could lead to suffering and death.

Joseph Henry Kimbler, age 81, with family in Adair and Russell

Joseph Henry Kimbler, age 81, returned to his Heavenly Father on Thursday, February 27, 2020. From Shepherdsville, a lot of his family lives in Adair and Russell county.

Funeral service will be held at 5pmCT/6pmET on Monday, March 2, 2020 in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood, and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy at Brooks Rd) with cremation to follow. Friends may pay their respects on Monday, March 2, 2020 from 11amCT/12noonET until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Adair County Elementary School Academic Team participated in the Region 14 Governor's Cup on Monday, February 24th and Saturday February 29th at Clinton County Middle School. On Monday, February 24th, the following students departed from ACES to Clinton County Middle School to participate in Future Problem Solving (FPS) and Written Composition.

Test tornado warning to be held Wed, 4 Mar 2020

A Statewide Tornado Safety Drill will be conducted at approximately 09:07amCT Wednesday, March 4, 2020.

During the drill, the National Weather Service (NWS), in partnership with Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM), the Kentucky Weather Preparedness Committee (KWPC), and Kentucky Broadcasters Association, will issue a test tornado warning message.

This will activate weather alert radios, outdoor warning sirens may sound, and many television and radio stations will broadcast the alert, allowing all Kentuckians the opportunity to practice tornado safety.

Rainy, windy, high 59F, chance of storms tonight

It's currently 47F at the Adair County Mesonet station. There will be showers today, mainly before 3pmCT, with a high temperature near 59F. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

There will be scattered showers and thunderstorms tonight, with a low around 51F. South wind 7 to 10 mph. Heavy rain and lightning are the main hazards from these storms. In addition, small hail is possible.

Tuesday will bring an 80 percent chance of showers thunderstorms, with a high near 61F. West wind 8 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Rain should taper off by around 7pmCT Tuesday Night, leaving partly cloudy skies and an overnight low around 39F.West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light in the evening.
