Jail officials were notified today that the facility must be completely evacuated by 5pm on February 5, 2020. Sen. Max Wise's Legislative Update - January 31, 2020 Personal political commentary/opinions of the writer By State Senator Max Wise, (R-Campbellsville) 16th District: Adair, Clinton, Cumberland, McCreary, Russell, Taylor, and Wayne Counties A question has echoed through the Capitol's corridors the last couple of weeks: How would the new governor propose to pay for initiatives he's unveiled? The answer came during the governor's budget address before a joint session of the Senate and House on Jan. 28. Additional money for education, health care, protecting children, public pension, state employee raises, blighted communities, first responders and social service agencies would come from nearly $1.256 billion in revenue over and above the last budget. That's a figure that wasn't expected. Traditionally, governors brief legislators in advance of their budget addresses. That didn't happen this time. Carol Perkins: Socializing in the waiting room Previous Column: Basketball dreams By Carol Perkins A trip to a doctor is often a social event. I based this on waiting room conversations I hear among strangers. Sitting beside patients in a crowded room lends itself to getting acquainted. Half the time they will know people who know the same people you know. I admit to engaging in these conversations to be polite, but I am usually not the instigator. On one particular day a few months ago, I was guilty of speaking too soon. My mom goes to a doctor every six weeks for an injection in her eye. So does half of South Central Kentucky! On our first trip, the nurse took her to the first stop (room), then was moved to another room to wait for another room, then moved back into a line of patients to wait for the final room. The last wait is the longest. Article continues... click title or click here to read whole article. 2020-01-31 05:31:18 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Carol Perkins
KSP: Trooper Teddy Bear supports the Trooper Teddy Project From Kentucky State Police Frankfort, KY - Valentine's Day is soon approaching and Kentucky State Police hope people will consider buying a Trooper Teddy Bear for their sweetheart. The bears go on sale this week and will sell for $14.99 through February 14th. Proceeds from the sale benefit the Trooper Teddy Project, which provides teddy bears to children in traumatic situations such as a car crash, exposure to drugs, or domestic abuse cases which frequently result in the arrest of a parent. "When KSP is called to a scene, it's usually a tragic and difficult situation," said KSP spokesman Sergeant Josh Lawson. "Unfortunately, there are many incidents where children are involved and witness traumatic things. To minimize the situation and help them cope, we provide children with a teddy bear to calm them down during times of crisis."
