State testing finds no PFAS health concerns in water Results of the testing can be found at: PFAS Drinking Water Report Final (PDF). By John Mura/Robin Hartman Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection (DEP) has conducted a statewide study for the presence of Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the treated potable drinking water from municipal drinking water supplies. Based on the results of this study, and when compared to the federal Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) health advisory of 70 parts per trillion, it has been determined that there are no evident PFAS health concerns in the Commonwealth's public drinking water supply. The four-month testing conducted in 2019 of 81 municipal water treatment plants, which cover about 50 percent of the Commonwealth's population, showed that all of the samples tested were at non-detectable levels or were well below the federal health advisory level. Letter: Appreciates International Student Program Vonnie Kolbenschlag writes: I so much appreciate the International Student Program that LWC offers to students and our whole community. I see photos of students from many different countries sharing friendships with each other and with U.S. students without regard to nationalities. These interactions have a long term effect as we get to know and care about other people and their cultures and they get to know us personally, not just from stories they may have read in the news. The program offers insight to our local students who may not have a chance to know someone from another country. It tells me, also, that parents all over the world are raising wonderful children as I have observed as a host family.Comments re photo 85943 LWC ISP Ugandan Dance demonstration 2019-11-20 12:05:12 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

Commentary: Be grateful for local investment By Victoria Pike I just do not understand why folks have to be so negative in their comments. If a company is willing to put their money to work in our community it should be welcomed by us. It may not be what everybody wants but at least they are willing to come into our town and spend their money. Yes, we would all like to have these other types of restaurants or businesses but good grief the world wasn't made in a day. Just look back the last 10 years. We have a whole new business area in Adair County. We have a new interchange with lighting. We have several new and existing businesses that have been willing to build new buildings here to upgrade their businesses. We have attracted others such as Whayne Supply, Walmart, Black Stallion Steakhouse, Dollar Tree, Goodwill, Sleep Inn, Duo-County, Pyles, Brown and Brown Ins., Dollar Stores, G & G Mahindra, Kwik Lube, Cumberland Family Medical, Taylor County Hospital Branch for many tests and services that would require a trip to Taylor County 25 miles away. Also, 1 new bank location and one to come. These things don't happen overnight and require millions of dollars in investment in our community. So like my momma always told me, if you can't say something nice just don't say anything.
