Family Math Night at Adair Co. Primary Center By Laura Marcum ACPC recently had their Family Math Night. Students were able to practice their math skills while having fun with their family. Lindsey Wilson College students led the activities. Alex Brockman and Matthew Hunter led the "Monster Measure" activity. They decorated a foot as a monster and measured how long/big it was. Sarah Robinson and Harold Bargo---led the "Estimation" activity. The students guessed how many bubbles they could blow through a hula hoop. They also got a chance to estimate how many m&ms were in a jar and how many candy corns were in another jar. The closest without going over was the winner with one winner per jar. Katrina Hadley and Kassidy Huddleston had the "Comparisons" activity. Students rolled number cubes and then put objects in a box that matched than number. Then they compared the two boxes and placed the appropriate sign for greater than, less than or equal. While Megan Bell and Erika Squires were leaders of the "Addition and Subtraction" activity. Students would bowl with pins and a bowling ball. However many pins they knocked down, they then put that many marbles in a cup. They bowled again and added that number of marbles in a cup. Then they had to count how many marbles were in their cup. Special thanks to Mrs. Judy Bradshaw and her Lindsey Wilson College Education students who hosted our activities. Sponsored by LWC Education students, Title I, the 21st CCLC Camp Casey , and the ACPC Family Resource Center. 2019-11-04 18:15:00 | Comments | Printable version

Fred and Martha Stein are 2019 CU Distinguished Alumni By Scarlett Birge Campbellsville, KY - "Fred and Martha Stein exhibit every quality of a distinguished alumni," Darryl Peavler, director of athletic alumni, said Oct. 18 at the annual Alumni Reception and Award Ceremony on Stapp Lawn. "Their servant leadership, service, generosity and spirit all exemplify what it means to be a Campbellsville University alumni," Peavler introduced the Steins at the event during Homecoming. "Humbling is probably a word to describe this," said Mr. Stein, a 1974 graduate, as he told of how they took their time at Campbellsville University for granted by explaining that, "As we've grown older we look back, we more than realize the vision and the picture and the heart and the spirit of Campbellsville University and all that it's done." Sen. Max Wise's Legislative Update: Veterans Day Personal political commentary/opinions of the writer By State Senator Max Wise, (R-Campbellsville) 16th District: Adair, Clinton, Cumberland, McCreary, Russell, Taylor, and Wayne Counties As the days grow shorter and the weather grows colder, it becomes clear that the holiday season will soon be upon us and the interim committee period will come to a close here in Frankfort. However, before Thanksgiving arrives and the season of shopping begins, we have an important upcoming holiday we should all observe: Veterans Day. In 1919, to commemorate the end of the First World War, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11 to be Armistice Day. President Wilson stated that the day would be "filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory." Armistice Day did not become a legal holiday until it was officially ratified by Congress in 1938. In 1954, after the United States participated in more armed conflict in both World War II and Korea, Congress changed the name to Veterans Day in order to honor all former soldiers and related associations. Today, we celebrate this holiday with many businesses across the country closing in observance of the hardships our nation's finest endure. While many of you will surely enjoy the day off, I would encourage you to take a moment to reflect upon the efforts of our men and women in uniform, both past and present. If your local community is hosting a Veterans Day parade, as many do, I strongly encourage you to attend and let those individuals see your appreciation in person. Small gestures go a long way. Kentucky Medicaid to expand eligibility for KI-HIPP By Jordan Rowe Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky Integrated Health Insurance Premium Payment (KI-HIPP) program has launched a new and improved application process to allow for more Kentuckians to apply and be eligible for KI-HIPP. K-HIPP is a voluntary Medicaid program which helps eligible Kentuckians cover the cost of an employer-sponsored health insurance plan. Once enrolled, KI-HIPP pays the policy holder for their share of the cost of the insurance premium. The program is administered by the Department of Medicaid Services, within the Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS). KI-HIPP provides Medicaid members with access to an expanded network of healthcare providers and more affordable individual and family care without the loss of Medicaid benefits. As an added benefit, the program may allow an entire family to be on the same plan and access the same doctors.
