Letter: Emergency braking is different Joe Hare writes: As a respectful reply to Ricky's question regarding emergency braking of an air brake truck, the engine brake is not normally used in emergency stopping. As the engine brake is applied by the use of a switch on the dash that is an on/off switch, thus reaching over to turn this switch on requires a lot more time than applying the brakes with your foot. Also the engine brake does not apply the normal brakes and bring you to a stop, it only uses the compression of the engine to assist in slowing the the truck. You must use the air brakes to bring the truck to a complete stop.Comments re article 106902 Letter Spirit or letter of the law 2019-10-22 10:41:53 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback
