Letter: Best idea for bike path/bridge

Brody Blair writes:
This is the best idea for a bike path/bridge to downtown. But, for a small town like Columbia, I don't know if we have the funds for projects like that. But, alas a great idea. --Brody

Letter: Question about water line protection

Maury E Lewis writes:
I received a letter in the mail today from American Water Resources, Alton Il. They are wanting me to purchase water line protection for my house for 5.49 a month. I can also purchase protection on the main water line and public sidewalk repair. They will pay up to $5,000 per occurrence.

Is this a SCAM or is this really something that people are purchasing? --melewi
Maury-- thanks for writing. According to this article at The Spruce, "Other than providing peace of mind for a few dollars a month, you may not find water line insurance a worthwhile investment. Statistically speaking, there is little chance that your water line will break."

Letter: Mega-disaster waiting to happen

Billy Joe Fudge writes:
The city and the county officials need to load up and go to Somerset asking that the passing lane going up the hill from Sandusky's and then all the way to the entrance of the industrial park be re-marked as a turning lane.

This is a mega-disaster waiting to happen and everyone who has traveled the road knows it.

Should there be a tragic accident in this stretch of roadway, $100,000 will not be a drop in the bucket compared to the liability the state will suffer should they be proven to know that there is a safety issue which they failed to address. --BJF

Letter: Businesses want the road problem addressed

Maury E Lewis writes:
I went to the doctor today and they thanked me for bringing up the road problem. The businesses involved with this talked to the State Road Department, and the road people told them if they would give them 100,000.00 then they would fix the road.

When I pulled out of the doctor's, a log truck loaded with logs went into the passing lane just as I pulled out and it was going so fast I had to go over 70 to pull away from him because the passing lane was running out. --melewi
