LWC Women's golf finishes fourth at Carey Collegiate Fall Classic By Christopher Coombs Hattiesburg, MS - The Lindsey Wilson women's golf team shot a 299 on the final day of competition at the Carey Collegiate Fall Classic to finish in fourth place. The Blue Raiders combined to shoot a 603 (304-299) at the par-72, 5,920-yard Canebrake Country Club. The Blue Raiders narrowly missed a tie for second place as Dalton State (Ga.) and Mid-South Conference competitor Cumberland (Tenn.) finished the two-round tournament with a score of 600. Cumberlands (Ky.), also of the MSC, finished in first place with 593 (302-291) strokes. LWC Volleyball defeats Campbellsville in three sets By Brady Budke The No. 10-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball team defeated Campbellsville University in a three-set Mid-South Conference battle tonight at Biggers Sports Center. Freshman Kasia Niderla led the Blue Raiders with 13 kills, while Alexis Smith trailed right behind with 12. Autumn Proctor and Camryn Rich each recorded 17 assists in the match. On defense, Lauren Larzelere led the charge with 16 digs with Elly Burke close behind her with 13. During tonight's match, Burke recorded her 1,000th career kill and currently sits sixth all-time in career kills at Lindsey Wilson. One-room Flatwoods Rosenwald School volunteer efforts continue Two more events are planned at Flatwoods Rosenwald School, Wednesday morning, September 25, 2019 and Saturday, October 5, 2019. Everyone is welcome to show up and volunteer to help save this one-room school. The Band of Brothers would like to say a heartfelt "thank you!" to all who turned out in the Flatwoods Saturday, September 21, 2019 to volunteer for helping begin restoration of the Rosenwald School. A second workday is scheduled for Saturday, October 5, 2019 starting at 7amCT. Please help spread the word to any who feel called to donate volunteer time to the cause of restoring this rare one-room schoolhouse. Last Saturday, 31 people showed up to help. KY project aims to bring families together at dinner By Christina Dettman/Beth Fisher Frankfort, KY - Kentucky behavioral health experts are working to expand a program designed to bring families together at the dinner table, promoting bonding and communication to improve family relationships. The Dinner Table Project was created by Four Rivers Behavioral Health Regional Prevention Center in 2015, building on research showing families that have dinner together are closer, and function better as a family unit. The program encourages at least once-a-week sit-down meals where families come together to share food and conversation, while distracting items, such as phones, televisions, and electronic devices, are put away. Eagle populations are growing rapidly across Kentucky By Sarah Ladd, Louisville Courier Journal When Raptor Rehabilitation of Kentucky in Louisville got its first eagle around 1995, such a thing was "exciting and unheard of." The eagle was on his first migration, having been tagged in Michigan, and was shot in Eastern Kentucky. A wing frozen into place would keep him from ever flying again. It was five years before the educational and rehabilitation organization got another eagle. Now, Raptor Rehab founder and Executive Director Eileen Wicker said it's not uncommon to have five eagles come through the center in a year.
