LWC Women's XC finishes 1st at Patty Forgey Invitational

Rio Grande, OH - The Lindsey Wilson women's cross country team finished in first place today at the Patty Forgey Cross Country Invitational.

The Blue Raiders ended with 26 team points to finish in first in front of Asbury (Ky.) who totaled 56 points in second place.

Mrs. Lilly Lasley Duvall a former student at Flatwoods

Mrs. Lilly Lasley Duvall was escorted into her former school by her nephew Craig Lasley on Saturday. She was going in to see the progress being made by the Band of Brothers and Adair Heritage Association and community volunteers. A good crowd of people gave of their time to help shore up and begin restoration of the Flatwoods School, a Rosenwald School, the last remaining one-room school in Adair County.

Mrs. Casey Nichole Schaeffer of Green County passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2019. she was 32 years old.

The Celebration of Life services for Casey Nichole Schaeffer will be conducted at 1pmCT on Monday, September 23, 2019 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S. Main St., Greensburg, KY, with cremation to follow. Bro. Jase Divens and Bro. Hayden Johnson will be officiating.

Visitation is requested from 4pmCT until 8pmCT on Sunday at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 7amCT on Monday until time of the service.

Law enforcement officers receive basic training

Vance Davis from the Casey County Sheriff's Office received the Most Improved Award for Physical Fitness and Defensive Tactics during the DOCJT Basic Training Class of 504 Graduates - 29 recruits completed 800 hours of training

Richmond, KY - Twenty-nine law enforcement officers from agencies across the state graduated Thursday from basic training at the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training.

The graduates of Class 504 completed 20 weeks of training, which consisted of 800 hours of recruit-level instruction. Major training areas included law offenses and procedures, vehicle operations, firearms, investigations, first aid and CPR, patrol procedures, orientation for new law enforcement families and the mechanics of arrest, restraint and control.

LWC Football uses big plays to beat Warner 73-29

Lakeland, FL -- No. 12-ranked Lindsey Wilson football scored a season-high 73 points -- including a pair of defensive touchdowns -- to beat host Warner (Fla.) 73-29 today at Viking Stadium.

Trailing 10-7 four minutes into the game, the Blue Raiders scored 28 unanswered points and never looked back to improve to 4-0 on the season. It was a day of big plays as the Blue Raiders scored seven of their 10 touchdowns on plays of 30 yards or more.

Cameron Dukes led the Blue Raider offense with a career-high 341 passing yards and a program-record seven touchdown tosses in the game. He connected on 19 of his 23 passes while throwing touchdown passes to five different receivers in the win.

CMS, CHS students participate in all-district choir

Campbellsville middle and high school students were recently chosen to participate in this year's Fourth District all-district chorus on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 16 and 17.

CMS students chosen to participate include seventh-graders Kaylyn Lawson, Mellany Parker and Ellie Wise and eighth-graders Hunter Williams and Luke McDonald.

Big Bang Theory actors new show set in Louisville

Mayim Bialik from "The Big Bang Theory" is teaming up with former co-star Jim Parsons for a new show set in the Bluegrass State and set to debut in 2020.

According to Entertainment Tonight, both will be executive producers and Biliak will star in the show called 'Carla,' named for the main character -- a 39-year-old woman who spends all the money her parents had saved for her wedding and ends up opening a Cat Cafe in Louisville.

Judy Mae Pyles, 67, Knifley, KY (1952-2019)

Judy Mae (Giles) Pyles of Knifley passed away on Friday, September 20, 2019 at the Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville, KY. She was 67 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 2pmCT on Monday, September 23, 2019, at the Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg St., Columbia, KY, with burial to follow in the Caldwell Community Cemetery.

Bro. James Walker will be officiating and pallbearers will be Tony Gabehart, Jeff Pyles, Dustin Pyles, Frog Giles, Bradley Gilbert and Gene Giles.

A very busy weekend for Lindsey athletics

  • The No. 5-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team returns to Walter S. Reuling Stadium, 151 Holloway Drive, Columbia, KY, on Saturday to take on No. 9-ranked Martin Methodist (Tenn.) at 7 p.m. CT. The Blue Raiders (4-1-1) return to the field after a 2-1 overtime victory over No. 14-ranked John Brown on Sept. 14. Sina Cavelti scored the first goal of the game in the 47th minute, and Amara Safuan scored the game-winning goal in overtime in the 93rd minute.

  • The No. 12-ranked LWC men's soccer team travels to Lawrenceville, Georgia to participate in the Grizzly Classic at Georgia Gwinnett's Grizzly Soccer Complex. The Blue Raiders kick-off the weekend, Friday, Sept. 20 at 4pmCT against No. 14-ranked Mobile (Ala.). Lindsey Wilson then plays (RV) Keiser (Fla.) on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 12 p.m. CT.

  • The No. 12-ranked LWC football team plays Warner (Fla.) for its first road game of the season on Saturday at 12pmCT at Lakeland Christian High School in Lakeland, Florida. The Blue Raiders (3-0) are back in action after defeating Faulkner (Ga.) 26-14 last weekend at Blue Raider Stadium. Lindsey Wilson's offense was able to garner 472 total yards, including 263 passing yards and 209 yards on the ground. The Blue Raider defense recorded 72 total tackles while limiting Faulkner to just 32 rushing yards.

  • The No. 10-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball team returns to action on Saturday, September 21st in Nashville, Tennessee to take on Fisk (Tenn.) at Henderson A. Johnson Gymnasium starting at 3 p.m. CT. This marks the third meeting between the Blue Raiders and the Lady Bulldogs, as Lindsey Wilson leads the all-time series 3-0.

Saturday is a day of serving the community, with events at Santa Fe Church in Flatwoods, in the City Park, and out at Green River Lake.

It's also Veterans Appreciation Day at the Farmers Market on the Square, and it's a big day for reunions in Adair County.

The Neat family reunion starts at 10amCT at Millerfield, and then the ACHS Class of 1954 will be holding their 65-Year Reunion at Cranmer Dining Center at 11:30amCT.

The ACHS Class of '94 will hold a reunion at Holmes Bend starting at 6:30pmCT, and the ACHS Class of '89 will hold a reunion dinner at the Red Barn at 7pmCT.

Good luck to the Adair County Band at BoA today

The Adair County Band will be competing at the Bands of America Regional Championship today at 10:15amCT/11:15amET at Cardinal Stadium, 2800 S. Floyd St., Louisville, KY.

Tickets can be purchased on site, at the box office. A day pass is $32, and discounts are offered for students, military, and seniors (65+). There is a $10 charge for spectator parking at the Kentucky Regional.

City Council gives sidewalk project approval to begin

In a special called meeting Friday, September 20, 2019, the Columbia city Council gave approval for the bid that will begin phase one of the long awaited Lindsey Wilson College sidewalk project. It will, in three phases, take students from school to the Sports Park.

Phase one of the sidewalk will start at LWC's Holloway Health and Wellness Center to meet Jamestown Street beside the Columbia church of Christ.
