White leads Blue Raider Classic, Men's Golf tied for 4th

Lindsey Wilson men's golf is tied for fourth following today's opening round of the Blue Raider Kickoff Classic at The Pines at Lindsey Wilson.

Lindsey Wilson shot a team-total 288 to sit eight shots of the pace set by Indiana Kokomo. Campbellsville University is second following its 281 and Thomas More (KKY) is third with a 282 in the 10-team tournament.

LWC Women's Golf in 2nd at Blue Raider Classic

The Lindsey Wilson women's golf team carded a 317 in their first round of the Blue Raider Classic to sit just one stroke off the lead of the two-day tournament.

Asbury (KY) is in first place after scoring a 316 at the par-72, 5,864-yard course while Union (KY) is in third after a 324 stroke opening round.

Serena Corbin to exhibit art in Louisville

Campbellsville, KY - Serena Corbin, the daughter of Tammy Corbin of Columbia, KY, and a 2017 graduate of Adair County High School, is one of 14 artists regionally selected from Chicago to Nashville to display her artwork in the Tim Faulkner Gallery in Louisville. Corbin is currently a junior art major at Campbellsville University.

The group show is titled "Portraits," and Corbin's art is titled "Consumed by Numbers" and is an 18x24 inch black and white charcoal and colored pen piece.

The free exhibit is at the Tim Faulkner Gallery, 991 Logan St. in Louisville, KY, until September 30, 2019.

Vena McQueary, 97, Christine, KY (1922-2019)

Vena McQueary of the Christine community of Adair County died Sunday, September 15, 2019 at the Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Hodgenville, KY. She was 97 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 1pmCT on Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at the Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg St., Columbia, KY, with Rev. Bobby Sexton officiating. Burial will follow in the Haven Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 9amCT on Wednesday morning at the funeral home.

BeBe Jean Capps, 83, Burkesville, KY (1936-2019)

Ms. BeBe Jean (Sharp) Capps of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at the Cumberland County Hospital in Burkesville, Kentucky. She was 83 years old.

The funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at 10amCT in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N Main St, Burkesville, KY. Burial will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery in Cumberland County, Kentucky.

The family will receive friends after 9amCT on Tuesday, September 17, 2019, until the funeral hour on Wednesday at Norris-New Funeral Home.

Bonnie Faye Piskorski, 81, Burkesville, KY (1938-2019)

Bonnie Faye Piskorski of Burkesville passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Cumberland County Hospital. She was 81 years old.

In accordance with Bonnie's wishes, cremation was chosen and her ashes scattered. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

KSP offers free Safety Education exhibits to public

Information Geared towards Drug Abuse and Safe Driving

Frankfort, KY - In an effort to educate the public and promote safety in Kentucky communities, KSP is offering public education exhibits free of charge. These educational resources are made possible through corporate and government sponsorships, providing a visual reminder about the dangers behind drug abuse and risky driving behaviors. KSP has four exhibits meant to serve the people of Kentucky in an informative, interactive mobile way.

KSP Spokesman Sergeant Josh Lawson says these exhibits are a great tool to remind people of all ages how important it is to stay safe whether on the road or in daily life.

"The purpose of these displays is to provide a visual reminder about potential dangers on our roadways, whether it be impaired, distracted or aggressive driving," says Lawson. "Additionally, news headlines are racked with stories about drug addiction. Our mobile substance abuse unit is an interactive way for our troopers to share these dangers and the real life impact that drugs have."

Adair Heritage Association meets tonight, Monday, 16 Sept

The Adair Heritage Association is having its quarterly meeting tonight, Tuesday, September 16, 2019 at 6pmCT at the Public Library, Greensburg Street, Columbia.

Current project, the restoration service day this coming Saturday, September 21, 2019, of the only remaining Rosenwald School in Adair County, will be discussed in addition to other business. Any interested person is invited to attend tonight's meeting.

Green Co. Grand Jury returns indictments Wed 11 Sept 2019

Indictments brought against 8 individuals from Greensburg and Campbellsville, KY, on charges including theft, burglary, wanton endangerment, trafficking, and DUI.

NOTE: Indictments are considered formal charges. An indictment is not a finding of guilt. An individual charged by indictment is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.

The Green County, KY Circuit Court grand jury, Greensburg, KY, returned indictments against the following individuals on Wednesday, 11 September 2019:

Retired Teachers to meet Tuesday, 17 Sept 2019

The Retired Teachers’ Association will hold its quarterly meeting on Tuesday, September 17, 11amCT at the Columbia Adair Chamber of Commerce Board Room on the main level.

Any retired teacher living in Adair County is encouraged to attend regardless of where you taught. Remember to bring items for the Food Pantry and either Fall or Christmas items for Downtown Days’ raffle basket(s).

Parking is available either behind the Chamber or in the lot behind Walker Realty. Hope to see you there!!

KDA's Mobile Science Activity Center coming to town

The Kentucky Department of Agriculture's high-tech Mobile Science Activity Center (MSAC) will visit Adair County Middle School Sept. 17-19, 2019, to teach students about agriculture and its vital role in their everyday lives.

Three MSACs travel to schools throughout the Commonwealth to give students the opportunity to conduct scientific experiments related to agriculture using current educational standards and core content.

The MSACs use tablet computers, a 70-inch LED monitor, and an all-in-one touchscreen desktop computer to interact with students. The mobile units contain internal generators; heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, and handicapped-accessible ramps.

The mobile units are administered by the Education and Outreach Division in the Kentucky Department of Agriculture's Office of Marketing.

It's currently 62F at the Adair County Mesonet station. It will be sunny and hot today, with a high near 93F. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon.

There's a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8pmCT, and a chance of patchy fog after 3amCT. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy overnight, with a low around 64F and light and variable wind.

There may be areas of fog before 10amCT on Tuesday. Otherwise, it will be mostly sunny again, with a high near 88F and calm wind becoming northeast around 6 mph in the afternoon.

Tuesday night will be partly cloudy, with a low around 63F.

ACHS Women's Ensemble having two fundraisers for expenses

The Adair County Women's Ensemble has been chosen to perform at Walt Disney World in December and at Carnegie Hall in New York in April. We are raising funds now to help make sure each student is able to participate on both occasions.

We are having two special events this month. First is a Drive-4-UR-School event on September 27, 2019. All you do is test drive a Ford and earn $20 for the school. This takes place at ACHS from 10am-6pmCT.
