Readers are helping us know Kentucky has several ferry boats

By Linda Waggener

It's exciting that readers of ColumbiaMagazine.com are helping educate us on ferry boat crossings in the state. I saw Mary Knight at FM2 this morning and she is also happy with these discoveries and we both plan to take grandchildren to as many as possible.

Thank you for your letters since the one ran in Monroe County and mistakenly stated that it was the only one running in the state. Meanwhile, if you go to one of them before we do, please send a picture!

Was your car's airbag recalled?

See if your car is affected SafeAirbags.com or www.NHTSA.gov/Recalls.

In Kentucky, more than 200,000 recalled Takata airbags remain on the road in vehicles representing 19 vehicle manufacturers. SafeAirbags.com, an organization notifying owners about this urgent airbag safety recall, is urging owners and drivers of affected vehicles to immediately schedule an appointment for a free recall repair to prevent potentially serious injuries, or even death.

Affected vehicles include those made by BMW, Chrysler, Daimler, Ferrari, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Infiniti, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lexus, Mazda, McLaren, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Scion, Subaru, Tesla, Toyota, and Volkswagen. Dealerships around the country have replacement parts available, and the free recall repair should take about one to a few hours depending on vehicle make and model.

A defective part inside the airbag can explode when the airbag deploys, potentially shooting sharp metal fragments at the driver and passengers. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has confirmed that 16 people in the U. S. have been killed, and hundreds of others alleged to have been injured, by this defect.

Sen. Max Wise's Legislative Update - Fri 26 July 2019

Personal political commentary/opinions of the writer

By State Senator Max Wise, (R-Campbellsville)
16th District: Adair, Clinton, Cumberland, McCreary, Russell, Taylor, and Wayne Counties

The anticipated special session to tackle public pensions has come to a close, and the General Assembly has passed a new plan to provide relief for over 100 quasi-governmental agencies--including local health departments, regional universities, domestic violence shelters, mental health providers, and others.

Everyone can agree that Kentucky has a real pension problem. Prior to this five-day session, quasi-governmental agencies allowed into the Kentucky Employees Retirement System (KERS), were facing dramatically high pension costs.

These agencies provide critical services to citizens across our commonwealth. While inaction is never an option, the legislature went to work to construct a plan that will help place these public employees on the path to fiscal soundness.

The new plan, officially passed as House Bill 1, is a legislative attempt to get a handle on the statewide pension crisis.
