CPD: July 13 Injury accident on Hudson Street By Officer Adam Cravens Columbia Police Department On Saturday morning, July 13, 2019, Columbia Police Department Officers responded to a two-vehicle accident with injuries on Hudson Street between A1 Auto and Don Franklin Ford. The accident occurred when a seventeen year old operator of a 2008 Mercury Mariner pulled out of A1 and into the path of a 2005 Dodge Caravan. The Caravan was occupied by two adults, William Corbin and Alicia Burton, both of Columbia. There were also a total of ten juveniles with ages varying from two to fourteen in the van. Various parties were treated on scene by Adair EMS before being transferred to T.J. Health Columbia for further treatment. One was later transferred to UofL with non-life threatening injuries. Sargent Gary Roy was the Investigating Officer. He was assisted on the scene by the Adair County Sheriff's Office and Kentucky State Police. Campbellsville earns historic-preservation-related project grant By Diane Comer Frankfort, KY - Twelve projects in nine designated Certified Local Government (CLG) communities have been awarded matching grants for FY 2019-20, for activities ranging from exploring the role of public art in historic districts to creating an outdoor educational exhibit highlighting commercial properties and the people and businesses associated with their history. Grants totaling $76,811 went to Bardstown, Bellevue, Campbellsville, Covington, Danville, Frankfort, Hopkinsville, Horse Cave and Metro Louisville from the CLG program, administered by the Kentucky Heritage Council/State Historic Preservation Office (KHC) with funds allocated annually through the National Park Service. An additional $51,208 in committed funds and in-kind services make up the required 40% local match total. Metcalfe awarded $188K for Summer Shade sidewalk project By Naitore Djigbenou Frankfort, KY - Governor Matt Bevin and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) announced a $16.6 million investment to fund 42 transformative community projects statewide through the Commonwealth's Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP), including $188,030.00 of a projected cost of $235,038.00 to Metcalfe County for "Pedestrian Improvements Bike/Ped Upgrade sidewalk and more for downtown safety" in the Summer Shade community. Funding 80 percent of the total project costs, the awards support safe connections and accessibility primarily through sidewalk improvements for the general pedestrian, children and disabled populations. USDA Will Require Most Cattle to Have Electronic Ear Tags Switch to RFID Tags Intended to Strengthen U.S. Animal Traceability System By Sean Southard Frankfort, KY - The federal government will require most Kentucky cattle to bear a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag in the next few years, the Kentucky Office of the State Veterinarian has announced. "By 2023, only RFID tags will be considered official identification," State Veterinarian Robert C. Stout said. "The U.S. Department of Agriculture is requiring the RFID tags and phasing out metal tags to improve our ability to trace animal movement quickly and efficiently in the event of a livestock disease outbreak. A strong traceability system is absolutely essential to maintaining open overseas markets for Kentucky and U.S. cattle." ACSO: Two-vehicle accident on Jamestown Street, Columbia By Sheriff Josh Brockman Adair County Sheriff's Office On Monday, July 15, 2019, the Adair County Sheriff's Office responded to the junction of Gaston Avenue and Jamestown Street in Columbia for a call of a two-vehicle injury accident. A preliminary investigation determined a 2006 Toyota Prius operated by Brenda K. Johnson of Illinois pulled out onto Jamestown Street from Gaston Avenue, directly into the path of a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe operated by Macy Chamness of Columbia. Johnson and two juvenile passengers were transported to T.J. Health Columbia. Chamness also had two juvenile passengers, one of which was transported to T.J. Health Columbia by Adair County EMS. The Adair County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by Adair County EMS, the Adair County Fire Department, Kentucky State Police, and Columbia City Police. Cats can come to Green River Animal Shelter again By Tammy Campbell, Director We are accepting cats and kittens again now at the Green River Animal Shelter (GRAS). The dog warden will not be picking cats up, they must be brought to the shelter. The rates are: $20 Owner surrender fee per cat - you must fill out a surrender form. $10 stray fee per cat - you must fill out a stray form. Nursing mother and kittens - $30 per litter. Kittens weaned $10 each per kitten.
